I've been around basketball my entire life as my father was a coach in the college ranks. I've officially been on the Iowa State bandwagon for the past 4 years. Although I met my Iowa State alum wife, and dance club partner to Lafester Rhodes, 10 years ago, I just couldn't jump during the Morgan and McDermott years. Things obviously changed with Fred.

I've been to many arenas during my lifetime. Final Fours, Conference championships, and rivalry games. In the past 4 years I've been able to come out to Ames for a couple of games a year. Last year's Kansas game and this year's Michigan game were incredible. And I hear they were not even on the list of the loudest games at Hilton. The point of the thread is this: I don't know of a better or louder venue. When rushing the floor comes up people often say, "act like you've been there before." I say never do that. Have you ever been to a game at Rupp Arena or the Dean Dome? They have a great and loyal fan base. But for enthusiasm, excitement, and just crazy loud they cannot compare. Most times enthusiasm is lost when you've been there before. You see, whether it is jumping up and down in you're living room (as I was Friday Night) or grabbing and hugging people in a bar after the last seconds were over, it's all the same as rushing the floor... it's pure unadulterated excitement. No coach will ever complain about such. It is what makes Hilton magic.

My dream is that on March 8th, ISU is playing for the conference championship against Okie St. I will bring my 79 year old father to an experience he will have never witnessed in all his years of basketball...Hilton!

Ok, I'm going to let this guy stay on the bandwagon. But it was a close call...

I couldn't agree more. I don't know why people want to "act like we've been there before". I never want this fan base to be upset because we didn't make a championship or a final four, like blue blood programs sometimes are. I want Cyclone fans to always be excited like every game is our biggest game to date. People who have been fans long enough to have seen terrible years should also understand how I feel.

I have said it many times on here: there are worse things to be known for than the fanbase that rushes the field/court too much.

Of course you're on the bandwagon.

Iowa State is AMERICA'S TEAM!!!

WELCOME ABOARD AMERICA!!!

I'm not crazy about the idea of rushing the court in a game where we are favored or expected to win. Not going to bash the ones that do it because they ultimately are the ones that create Hilton magic... Just not crazy about it. But I guess the silver lining to that is if we are complaining about people rushing the court too often at least that means we are winning.

This is a perspective I never really considered before... thanks for the input! It's just great to see top-notch basketball in Ames again, and it's hard not to get excited. But I also never stopped to consider that these past few seasons, especially at home, have been moments that many other fan bases have simply come to expect rather than enjoy.

I'm not sure we'll ever not be favored at home.

Wow. That felt eerily like I was watching the Iowa game from Friday night. Very cool.
I was wondering. I was tracking the game online because I had other commitments. Sounded like the exact same feel. Read the game thread, it sounds like we are playing like crap, but just hanging around, then clutch at the end. Great stuff!

Rep overload coming this guy's way, and well deserved. I never want unadulterated joy and fun to be replaced by a too cool for school mentality.

I rushed the court ion 1982 after beating Minnesota and Randy Brewer. I have never regretted that action. I got a hug from 2 story Dori, the tall cheerleader. :)
