If the rolls were reversed and this game had been played in Iowa City with Iowa winning at the buzzer, and ranked ahead of Iowa State, here is the Alternate History story that would have run.

Iowa City-Sure Iowa State led throughout most of the game, sure Iowa State out rebounded Iowa, but at the end of the day the only stat that matters, is what’s on the scoreboard. And that stat, the Iowa Hawkeyes won. This is the kind of win that can catapalt a team to make a deep run in the big dance, and the kind of win that can show a team it’s got what it take to win the Big 10 Championship. There is no doubt the future is bright for this talent laden Iowa team. And there is a reason they are ranked above their cross state rival.

For Iowa State, you have to wonder where this loss will leave them. To outplay your opponent most of the game, only to let it slip away is not a trait of a championship team. There is no doubt they have the talent, but the ability to finish off a game is what it will take to win in the Big 12, and the Cyclones have to be wondering what’s ahead.

For Iowa, the message is clear. If you can win playing from behind and certainly not your best game of the season, just think of where you can go with your best effort!

At the end of the day, one team wins and one loses. The rest of the game doesn’t matter.

You mean something like last year where one team road their victory all the way to the NIT....

Does not translate. This year, if the game had been played in IC, the big 12 refs would have fouled out half of Iowa's team with their wac-a-mole defense. Big 10 refs did not seem to understand the concept of freedom of movement.

Will and Ejim don't have a virtual DNP next to their stats if we play in Hilton last year, chances are the result would have reversed both of the last two years if the venue flipped. The two years before ISU would have won on any court unless they mailed it in though.

It's kind of annoying that most Iowa fans don't get all of that...but only get that they could have won at home this year. I especially hate all the stories about how "the teams are finally good again"...ISU has been good for 3 years now.

Especially if McCabe knocks down the 3 at the end and we lose in OT.

McCabe's 3 point numbers will drop like a rock as he faces Big Ten defenses...it was still a horrible breakdown that we left their best shooter on the season wide open to tie, but throughout his career and his team's recent history I'm not incredibly nervous about that shot.

I was more worried because of this team's recent history. Opponents' 3's at the end of games have not been good to us.

I get what ketelmeister is doing, and I agree. The DSMRag would have ran this exact story, or at least something very similar.

What more could you want in a game?
Court rush.
The Dingleberry Play.
Several flops.
Gingeritis people in action.
Fran with a muzzle.
Gessell choke.
McCabe misfired missile.
Niang schooling.
Hogue jumping off other players to get rebounds.
Sweet Caroline being noted by commentators.
Fran and Fred shaking hands. Fred showed Fran he was no Ollie.
