Darius Lee Campbell update?

This is a huge get. DLC has great ball fakes, very similar to the Auburn QB. Looks to have some touch on passes. He seemed to progress through his receivers well. I think the arm strength is there. His vision, and use of blockers, was amazing. Watch those runs again, and how he is patient at the right times. While I love a passing offense, can you imagine having to go against DLC at QB with an improved line, two back set at 30 degrees in Jack Trice? Every game would be the KU game. Not to mention the deep ball he could setup for Lazard. Good stuff!!!

Welcome to the ISU family!

Oh wow. I'm honestly shocked. This is great news. IF we can persevere through these staff changes without recruiting losses, I'll be overjoyed. I didn't think we had a chance at DLC after the season we've had. Welcome to Darius.

If Coach K is the probable choice for OC. It's known that he prefers a blue collar smash mouth approach to the game and he credited with bring along Colin K so maybe DLC can bring a similar style to this team while utilizing the pistol a bit more. Who knows...

Will he redshirt? Does this mean Lanning and or Hodge will be moving positions? Is someone transferring out? 5 QB's is a lot, and our oldest one just finished his Sophomore season.

With the way we go through QB's in a season, he will be playing in a couple years anyway.

I think he comes in and competes right away for the job. I could be wrong though.

But if we want to run the same Pistol that Nevada did, then this kid is the prototypical guy you're looking for to do it. Hodge would be too, but he's still way too small. This kid has the size already. The question will be whether he can throw it well enough or not? If he can, he will be in the mix IMO.

And 5 QBs isn't too many if we're running the read option IMO. We just might need all of them.

How do you know he has the size? Trevor Hodge was listed as 6'2" 190 in HS, DLC listed at 6'2" 200. Not much difference there.

I'm going off of what cyclones.com has Hodge listed at for THIS season.... 6'0" and 178 lbs. Lee-Campbell, if his numbers are accurate, are 6'2" and 200 lbs. I like that a lot better. Of course, it's meaningless if Hodge can throw it better. I'd take the better passer anyday. But I don't know who is the better passer?

I'm sorry, I should have been clearer. Hodge was listed by Rivals at 6'2" 190, and turned out to actually be 6'0"177. So, if DLC is listed by Rivals as 6'2" 200, how do you know how big he actually is?

Seems a bit of a strectch to say that he's bigger. Matter of fact, I remember about this time last year, someone here talking about how Hodge was bigger than either Richardson or Rohach...and look how that turned out.

It would take a very, very special talent to not redshirt a freshman QB when you have 2 guys with a lot of experience coming back on the most important position on the field. I would say there is less than a 5% chance CPR would start a true fresh QB. He's been slow to pull the trigger on RS freshmen the past 2 years to get them in games, let alone start a true freshman.

On the other hand, DLC already looks like an even better runner than Richardson or Hodge...

I'm just content to have him committed. Happy to sit back and see what happens.

Only way DLC doesn't redshirt is if he is the best quarterback next year. I have trouble believing he will be as a true freshman.

Agreed. I'm just saying that he, or any other true freshman QB will have to be heads and shoulders above Sam and Grant to start in front of them. He would also need to learn the offense in a few practices, which isn't likely since GH and Sam both still hadn't learned it until 1.5 years in the program. Doesn't happen overnight, it is a process. Sam will be back to full speed next spring and he will recover that lost step we saw because of the recurring injury. CPR will allow him to compete, but I don't believe CPR likes starting young QB's, and I agree with that. Give him the redshirt year to learn the system, develop physically and mentally. Pays off when their jr./ sr. years roll around.

I can only go off the most recent information. DLC's numbers could be inflated too, who knows? I can only go off what is listed currently for both, and 2 inches in height and 22 lbs is significant IMO.

I think it's a stretch for you to rip on me for just using the most current numbers anyone can find. I would guess DLC is quite a bit bigger, but you can never be sure.

At this rate, unless he's very superior compared to the other QB's, he won't even be scout team QB. My guess is, though, that is either a) superior or b) SBR/Lanning/Hodge are transferring or c) Hodge/Lanning are switching positions.
