Im sure todays KC game is because of the weather but Ive noticed that a lot of NFL stadiums are not very full this year, in fact most of the teams that are bad and have bad weather are barely 1/2 full.

This shocks me with the price of NFL tickets and how crazy NFL fans are.

I think this should make CyclONEnation very proud of our attendance, and NFL owners very upset.

Anyone else notice this? (empty nfl stadiums that is)
Wonder what the problem is?

Is it a general trend of the NFL popularity starting to fade?

OR maybe directly related to HD tv and the televised game is better? (hard to replicate atmosphere of game though through a tv)?

Or just crappy teams and crappy weather?

NFL popularity isn't fading. TV ratings are higher than they've ever been. That's the issue. The at home NFL experience is better than its ever been. People watch at home instead of going to the games.

I will be at the Saints vs Panthers game tonight. I bought my tickets on the resale market and actually only paid $20 over face value for them. A big time game with decent seats I thought I would be paying a lot more for what I got.

You combine the in-home experience being better than ever with the in-person experience being more expensive than ever and you end up with smaller crowds.

Iowa State's attendance remains strong in part because the game day experience at JTS can't be replicated from a television. The tailgating and general atmosphere surrounding a game are something you have to physically be present for to experience.

For other teams and for some NFL teams, if your only purpose in going to a game is to watch the game, HD television has made that increasingly easier, cheaper, and in some cases more enjoyable to do from your own couch with all the space and food that you want, instead of from the stadium.

I just find it shocking to not see seats full, looks like a bottom tier college fb team stadium, guess Im just not used to it.

alarson, your definitely right on that just look at what happened to nascar; the race tracks were ALWAYS full and now nascar got to greedy (and stupid with the product they were putting out but thats another story) and no one can afford to go and the tracks look terrible with no one in the stands.

That would be fun to go to. Jealous.
