NFL: Kubiak Fired

So if the Texans finish strong (even possible?) will Wade be the front-runner? That guy has had a lot of lives in the NFL!

Possible, but unlikely. Bob McNair is a smart enough guy to look at what's happened with recent interim-turned-permanent head coaches in the NFL - Romeo Crennel in KC, Leslie Frazier in Minnesota, and Jason Garrett in Dallas. That alone should disocurage McNair, let alone the fact that Wade Phillips has already been fired as a head coach in three other places.

Wade Phillips has been a disaster as a head coach. While I can see their right to fire him at least let finish the season. Canning him a month after he collapses on the field is a tad weak. Has this been a bad year yes (with some key injuries Cushing, foster), but a year ago he did lead this team to their best record in franchise history.

But he nearly got fired before that. They underachieved for three straight years before finally getting it together last year, and then they flamed out in the playoffs. No point in keeping him around the rest of the season, especially if he had designs on keeping Matt Schaub on the field. Holding what will likely be a top three pick in the draft, the Texans need to know for sure what they have with Case Keenum. The only way they're going to find out is to let him play through mistakes.

He didn't look good last night; I hope he gets some much needed rest. McNair has the resources and connections to get this team back on track. I just hope it doesn't take too long.
