Really hope Mika's okay. Kid has a great future ahead of him. Loved the drago comparisons.

Yeah, we don't have the best interior defense, but the guy is pretty good and as a freshman, I think he has a good, bright future if he stays healthy. He was a 4 star, top 50 recruit too...

Sounds like he will be. He had a scratched cornea. Those usually heal completely within 24-48 hours. I've had eye issues before and those aren't a fun 24 hours.

This. I was lurking on one of their boards. He went to the hospital and this was the diagnosis. He'll be in a to of pain for the next day, but it heals quickly and he shouldn't miss a game from it.

Huge resume-building week for the Cyclones. First beat a top 10 team at home, then beat what will likely be a top 50 RPI team on the road. IMO we're no longer fighting for a spot in the tourney (not that I thought that was a question in tthe first place), we're fighting for a Sweet 16 seed.

A few thoughts:

1) The more I think about the Kane call the more it bugs me. Mika, while facing up and knowing he was in traffic, swung his elbows and hit Hogue in the mouth. That is a "basketball play" and not a flagrant. Kane, while turning full speed, and having his back initially to Mike, pokes him in the eye in what would be an impossible thing to do intentionally. I get that Kane has to be responsible for his arms, but if that is the standard, how can Mika's elbow not also be a flagrant? I'm having a hard time justifying the two.

2) It's interesting to me that this game and the Michigan game took nearly identical paths. Struggled mid way through the first half and found ourselves in a decent sized hole. Battled back at the end of the first half to pull it close (1 point lead with Michigan). Again hit a lull towards the beginning of the second half. Battled back, made it close at the 8 minute mark, took a lead at about the 5 minute mark and never gave it up. Shows great toughness.

3) I know this likely won't be the case, but I can't see why we wouldn't be in the Top 10. Who has a better "resume" than us right now? Maybe Michigan State (beating UK) and Kansas (beating Duke), but I think we are deserving of the Top 10. Do I think we are one of the ten best teams in the nation? No. But based on accomplishments alone at this point I think we have to be considered.

4) Fred is amazing. This year's team is nothing like last year's team and he's finding a way to be successful. Last year's team looked like a Calipari coached team, spreading the floor and relying on skill. This year's team looks like a Izzo team, tough, gritty, rebounding team with some guys with skill but who rely on toughness. It's a testament to Fred that he can adjust to his personnel. Even some of the best coaches have a hard time doing that. For example, Calipari couldn't it with his bunch last year. Roy Williams can't seem to do it either.

All in all, what a game and what a season it will be.

I had a bad dream that BYU hit a game winning shot, but then woke up smiling.

I think Fred did a great job of stealing minutes through the various foul troubles. Got some extended rest for a few key guys. I would imagine that Georges is feeling the benefit of his off season conditioning, as he played more minutes than anyone (2nd- Matt Thomas). Matt was just solid as heck and seemed to get the very key rebounds in the second half.

So you would have been ok with Haws doing this to Ejim?

Don't forget the Doc factor. Defense has really improved.

I wouldn't be OK with it, but to say it was intentional is just ******* stupid. We were in control of the game and had them on their heels at that point (largely due to Kane!). A flagrant foul was basically the worst thing anyone of our players could have done at that point. Should have been a flagrant I, just like Mika's elbow to Dustin's mouth should've been a flagrant I.

I doubt very seriously it was intentional. Yet to say the elbow and this foul are the same is kind of dumb. The elbow was caused by a basketball move. This just looks really, really bad. I mean he isn't going for the ball, and he is looking right at him.

All-in-all the refs were okay.

They awarded them a couple 1970's era NBA continuations in the second half but for the most part, they did a good job.

How do you know he isn't going for the ball? Did you even watch the game or are you just going off the ******* still shot? He was clearly anticipating Mika to go up with the ball and Mika faked instead. It was unfortunate that he got him in the eyes, but it was just bad luck on both their parts. It's a foul to the face, the definition of a flagrant I, but it's not a punch to the head or kicking someone on the ground. It was just as much a basketball move as elbowing someone in the face while attempting to clear out.
