Zebra Conspiracy

When the defensive back forces me out of bounds, I'm going to the restroom, hit the concession stand and come back and (supposedly) catch the ball.

Maybe go around and start hitting some players on the opposing sideline since it's cool.

I just think that whoever is in charge of big 12 refs is incompetent. There is seemingly little done to hold officials accountable for bad calls.

Also, calls like this when the officials take a 7-7 game and basically give the lead to a team. Then, kneecapping the opposing team on the next drive to basically complete the momentum shift is what makes me think there is something screwy with officiating in these lower-tier games. You are talking about 4 obviously poor calls in a row (commentators were critical of all 4) at a somewhat key point in a game. Early enough in the game that is will not attract too much attention. A game that probably won't attract much gaming attention outside diehard gamblers. In a semi-amateur sport which is notoriously opaque in managing officiating.

If you read up on the big soccer match-fixing rings, these are the exact types of situations they seek out. I'm not saying it is happening, but with all the crazy things that have happened in officiating in these lower-tier games I can understand being suspicious. Also, I would doubt it has anything to do with ISU and more to do with corrupt officiating.

I have been watching ISU sports for nearly 60 years. Sure I am biased, like every good fan is. But I have friends who are Missouri, Kansas, and KSU fans and they all readily admit that they know of no other team who gets as many bad calls as ISU. Also, I am a former high school football ref and so I probably know a little more than the average fan about what is/is not a bad call. That non-holding call on the TSU touchdown run was about as bad as its gets. And I think it is getting worse, as the Big 12 becomes a more TX-OK centric conference. It has gotten to the point of where I can't watch some games my level of frustration is so high. My wife will say, time to turn off the TV. That point was reached in the TCU game a few moments ago.

I know I am not the only ISU fan who feels this way. This is becoming a very serious issue when a large number of fans truly believe the cards (i.e., refs) are stacked against us. The ISU administration needs to complain vehemently to the Big 12 about this issue (maybe they are) and if the situation does not soon improve, then the complaints need to become public. I was very upset when NU and MU left the Big 12. But just maybe they really knew what they were doing. I know we have no good options for leaving the Big 12, but at some point you have to quit turning the other cheek. Like IST8CIVILENGR said, "enough is enough"!!!!!

I'm not sure why the refs would be "for" TCU, but they definitely are. It's not just that they are bad because all the horrible calls are going one way. Something strange is going on here. This is as bad as it's been this year.

First that catch coming from out of bounds. Then the no hold on their TD. Then the mysterious false start on us. Then the 15 yarder against Farniok where he completed whiffed on the block and it wouldn't have even been a chop block if he hadn't whiffed. And now the no call on the intentional grounding. I mean c'mon. This is ridiculous folks!

No a conspiracy but clear bias and its quite obvious. Whether its Intensional or subliminal, hard to argue that it isn't happening. When was the last football game where isu got all the calls?

Big12 officiating is either horrible or intentionally biased. If bad, then calls would even out with no regard as to the stature of the program. If biased, there would be systemic and repeated calls that favor the teams with greater stature.

So you people tell me, is Big12 officiating bad, or is it biased?

I guess some people don't want to face the harsh reality of the state of the Big12 and ISU's place in the pecking order. Cognitive dissonance in effect I guess.

Our conference, the Big12 sucks. Personally, I am getting awfully tired of throwing around thousands of dollars every year to watch us get continually screwed over. I would never put up with this in business, why should I for my personal life? Loyalty? Two way street.

It seems these threads are usually 50% about disagreeing on the meaning of the word conspiracy.

A lot of the same people who think there's something crooked going on in this game would say there's no conspiracy because they have a different idea of what conspiracy means.

It's much easier to live life thinking people get what they deserve. I happens in the important things in our lives like government and the work place and happens in more trivial things like sports fans wanting to think games are never fixed or intentionally slanted. I wish I could tell myself when the JHawks get a 3 pointer during a dead ball that it's just luck and some day a similarly irrational call will go against Kansas because then it wouldn't burn me, but I'm cursed with common sense.

Worst in the business. Only other conference that is close is PAC 12 as they do a horrible job rigging the games.

Plus with the Pac 12 some of it got out in the open in an obvious way, like it has with NBA basketball, like it has with european soccer. But Big 12 football and basketball...there's some reason it can't be crooked in the slightest.

Don't worry, the calls always even up once we're down a few touchdowns.

Someone with a lot of time on their hands could easily prove the answer to the question by mapping out the penalties in all of ISU's games (for both teams) and comparing that to other teams in the league. The answer is there in the data...but I don't think anyone wants to take the time to do the analysis. Probably time to invest the resources in it, though. One person, full time, for one week. Also, by including the pacing of the entire game, it would certainly show that the officials are controlling the outcome when they are supposed to be invisible and only make the calls when they are there.
