The schedule is all down hill from here

Look at our schedule. We won't make a bowl game (obviously) but we started our conference schedule with:

Texas (who is 3-0 in conference so far),
@Texas Tech (undefeated),
@Baylor (who will probably win the conference)
OSU (who will probably get second or third) this week...

We have played 4 out of the teams that will finish top 5 in the conference so far.

We close with:
@K-State (beatable/down year)
TCU (beatable)
@OU (probably will lose, but their offense is nowhere near Baylor/OSU... it won't be a blowout, at least)
Kansas (no matter how bad we are, they are still Kansas)
@WVU (beatable).

We could realistically take 3 out of those 5, I think, depending on how much worse our health gets. It's not what we all wanted to start the season, but if we finish 4-8 (or if we are lucky, 5-7) with a super young team, and close on some sort of a winning streak, it won't end up nearly as bad as it looks right now.

I still think we need a shakeup on offense (particularly with our Coordinator/QB Coach and O-Line coach), but the world isn't ending. We are still much, much better off than we were in the Chizik era, and we'll rebound in the next couple years.... We weren't realistically going to win more every single year without a down year.
 
We are all mad and angry, and I only want to read posts about who we should direct our pitchforks to. This thread is much too positive and optimistic and therefore I hate it.
 
Realistically win 3 of 5???? Were you one of the guys saying OSU was beatable? Or Baylor? There is possible and there is probable.

Before the season, I might have said both were beatable. Before the Baylor game, I knew we were going to get beat down. Honestly, we can beat K-State on the road (we have almost beaten them away the last couple times we have played them, when they were 10-win teams, and they are really down), TCU at home, and Kansas at home (if we don't win that, I may not ever watch football again)... so yeah, I think it is realistic to win 3/5.

Despite the bad score, I actually think OSU was pretty beatable. Take away the two OSU defensive TDs and the worst tackling on any play in the Rhoads era on the long TD run by Desmond Roland, and it's a 10 point game. I realize it's somewhat grasping at straws, and OSU was clearly the better team, but they really weren't that much better. If ISU played like they did against Texas, I think the game easily could've been close till the end.
 
Well, our season went downhill well before our schedule went downhill.

That's true. Wins against UNI and Iowa would have made this a much different season. I guess I'm just trying to show that these were probably all games we would expect to lose anyway... if we alternated TTU and Baylor and OSU with wins against Kansas and TCU and K-State, nobody would be hitting the panic button (even given our early season losses).
 
Our schedule hasn't been real daunting at any point this year. We are just a really bad team. Kansas and maybe TCU may be winnable.

I disagree with you. We're bad and young and injured, but I don't think anyone would really want to open with Texas (even with their coaching, they are always overwhelmingly talented... just look what they did to OU after the game against us) and then play back to back road games at the opponents Homecoming (including Baylor, who could go undefeated IMO, and TTU, who currently is undefeated)... OK State at home should have been managable, sure, and it's better than @OU, but I do think we have had a lion of an early conference schedule.

Maybe we'll still lose out, who knows, but I don't think there are many coaches in the conference who would prefer our schedule over one that featured KU, WVU and K-State early.
 
OU and KSU are losses. TCU, KU, and WVU are tossups. One or two wins if we are not injured.

All of those teams would smoke UNI and Iowa, who the 'Clones lost to. I'd say the hill isn't a hill...it's a mountain.

All things considered (injuries) I actually don't think the OL is doing all that bad of a job this year. I remember the "old days" and they were still worse than this. Everyone needs to just cool down and realize that we can't just reload each year, we have to build our teams from the ground up and that takes time. We will probably always see one or two down years followed by a year or two of "better" years. I remember watching ISU football growing up and it was a joke, this is not anywhere near the same as it was back then. The talent is actually there on the roster, it's just young, unproven, inexperienced talent. Give them a year or so to grow up.
