I thoroughly enjoyed the 33rd annual tipoff basketball banquet last night at sold out Lincoln Valley in State Center! You cyclone fanatic fans not able to attend missed out on a classic reunion of coach Johnny Orr, Romy, and daughter Becky, with many old longtime friends and coach Fred Hoiberg, staff and players. Johnny obviously had a great time reliving the video taken of him at the 1986 banquet riding a big boar, and of shaking many hands and signing many mementos! My favorite was a t-shirt a fan had both Johnny and Fred autograph saying: Johnny Made Hilton Magic, and the Mayor Brought It Back! Fred gave a brief rundown of this year's schedule and team, and then had the players stand and introduce themselves, tell where they were from, and who their favorite NBA player was. This ranged from Fred to Kobe, to Jeff Grayer and Hornacek, to even Royce White! All in all, a great night with two of ISU's best coaches!

How does one learn about and/or buy tickets to said event? Every year I tell myself to ask this question.

Anything good/bad regarding this year's team worth noting?

To recap what I read elsewhere....

Fred said we're shooting the 3-ball well so far in practice and Doc is really helping with stressing/coaching D, which will be needed to make up for the loss of firepower

The team hit 21 3's recently in an intra-squad scrimmage.

It's pretty much invite only. Obviously a limited amount of seating and it's very full every year. In other words, you need to know one of the 'hosts' or someone that already gets invited.

Was a great time, wasn't expecting Johnny. Melvin seemed to engage the fans most of any of the players, but this wasn't his first rodeo, even if he claims he's a freshman.

Doc better work on the 3 pt. d a little too.:mask:

I made Fred multiple Subway sandwiches when he was still in high school...no invite.

I've only been to the last 4 or 5 and there hasn't been an auction.

Ah, I hadn't gone since '06 or '07 when I was in high school. They used to auction off being ball boys, big 12 tournament tickets, signed memorabilia - new and old.
