I'm a Texans fan (family in Houston as I'm also a Rockets fan) and I've always had mixed feelings about Foster. Not sure what to think about him openly admitting to and also being proud that he accepted money during his senior year at Tennessee. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Does anyone care at this point? College players get paid, it's just the way it is. He should be proud, he was able to turn his skills into profit, anywhere outside of college football that's a good thing.

paying them once they are there makes no sense to me. they are stuck there so it seems like a waste. i mean can't we assume they'd try and play their best and win anyway?

I think he'll be lucky to still be the starting RB in Houston byt the end of the season. Ben Tate has looked like the much more explosive player of the two so far this season. All those carries the last couple years are catching up.

It definitely goes on for sure in a lot of programs, especially when looking at the evidence out there. However, am I the only person in the camp where I actually don't think ISU is one of them? Throw in the OSU drugs and girls categories as well. I don't come to this conclusion because I think we are all high and mighty compared to these other programs (although I think we are better than some), but rather because I don't believe we even have the resources to pull it off if we tried. It is two-fold too. I don't think we have the resources in our athletic department to pull it off, nor do we have the athletic boosters to pull it off. Somehow, I look at this as one of the few advantages to being broke. Maybe I'm just naïve though. I do know for a fact that Tyler Smith was paid at Iowa (I mean I actually have evidence), but then again, they are working with a few more Benjamins than we are.

I'm not shocked to see this about a pristine SEC school.

I wouldn't be surprised if trigger is right. I also don't think we can afford to cheat like that. If we could, we'd see a lot more money floating around here in general.

Its funny how my comments are one of those things where it is kind of happy to say, but also kind of sad to say at the same time.

I think the odds that no ISU players have received improper payments or benefits at some point in the past are probably pretty slim.

The schools in the south seem to be much worse than the schools in the North. The gold old boys down there just want to rub shoulders with the players.

I just don't think anyone is clean in this regard. I think at every school kids are maybe even unknowingly doing things they shouldn't.

I don't know how you fix it either. Even if you go the stipend route, an extra $200 is an extra $200 for headphones or shoes or something else.

None ever? You are probably right. You'll notice that I didn't throw in academic benefits into my comments as I truly believe those happen at nearly every school in the country to some extent, including ISU. You don't need money to provide those.

I'm sure money is changing hands too at some point, I think it'd be naive to think it doesn't happen here too.

The day they start paying athletes is the day I stop following college sports. Scholarship isn't enough? Take out a loan like the rest of us. I hope they throw the book at anyone caught breaking the rules.

I agree with this. Show the athletes a briefcase full of money that represents how much they are getting from the university. They have their school paid for and live in nice apartments for free. They are also getting to play the sport they love in front of thousands of passionate fans.

Um, it's already happening. Did you read the article in the OP?

I bet you are in the minority with this view. I will agree though that getting free tuition and room/board should be enough, but I think its only a matter of time before they get paid or more of a stipend.

Yep - it happens - and that university is already under probation. Time for an "loss of institutional control" and bowl ban.

If people really want payed athletes, separate it from college - stop making people that could care less about education take classes (and take away their unappreciated benefit) - and make the whole thing pay taxes.

So don't you think it's probably happening at schools that aren't under probation too?
