Looking at some stats, Richardson is on pace to break 3000 passing yards this year with or without a bowl game. I dont know that it will happen, but name the last ISU QB that broke that number. Also at 62% completion and on pace to have 30 TD with 12 INT. Im not saying that Richardson is the second coming but I think some on this board is being a little hard on the guy.

Something was said in another thread that if we go winless this season it would have been the worst coaching job at ISU in decades. I think we have some great coaches but I cant argue with this. We have more tallent than we had in 94 without a doubt. I think Rhoads will pull a few games out still this season, but I think that statement does put some things in prespective when thinking about the offensive side of the ball.
 
Was tough watching him hobble around. We had to kill over half the playbook since he couldn't do the zone read very well.
 
He was noticeably uncomfortable. Made some pretty ugly throws and then there were the int's. The execution just wasn't there overall. A running game would be a nice addition and take some pressure off, considering we're supposed to be a relatively run heavy team.
 
I would assume he'll eventually play a team with a pass defense but it certainly won't be the next couple games so he's got that going for him.

and to me that part impresses me. He was sick in the bowl game and injured in the last two games and he has still had some ok numbers. If he can stay healthy and get some good play calling this offense has potential. The oline needs to improve but I think they will.
 
Thanks for doing the math on that. Those are interesting passing stats for SR, but we are only on pace to have, what, 1500 rushing as a TEAM? That is most certainly not going to get much done in the win column.

It was interesting reading Ian Smith's column the other day about the running game for Iowa. Using 5 backs, no one gets a chance to get into any kind of flow. There needs to be some consistency in players before there gets to be consistency in play.
 
and some of it is also the wide outs, still there is a oppitunity with the passing game. We just need to open things up for the RB
 
Call me crazy, but if Sam gets healthy I think we can win our next 2 games. I would not have been at all surprised to be 2-2 after the first four games, although I wouldn't have predicted the UNI loss. Either way, get Sam healthy I think there is a season to salvage.

Don't get it fooled, I've seen the rest of the Big 10 play so I haven't given up on a bowl game or anything. It's just that even I can't argue that Iowa's pass defense is good. Well unless you're stupid enough to attack the linebackers with short passes and screens rather than the db's with deep passes and double moves. Nobody is that stupid though...:unsure:
 
I just hope this team has the mentality that they can win every game from here on out. Stranger things have happened. Have to keep fighting.

I would change 'attack' to 'poke harmlessly at.'

That is what is perplexing... the dude has played in 5 games total in his career. At Kansas, WVU at home (in an arctic hurricane), Tulsa in the bowl... all last year. Then UNI and Iowa both at home this year. He's thrown for 13 td's to only 3 interceptions, as far as I remember has not lost a fumble, has a career completion percentage of ~ 60% and yet ISU is 1-4 in the games he's played in.

Weird. Jantz and Barnett were turnover machines. Perhaps our coaching staff has him so worried about the turnover that he's not taking shots he should? I don't know. But I'd think with his numbers (statistically) ISU should be better than 1-4 in games he's played in.

#s don't tell the whole story. Most of the passing numbers against Iowa came in that flukish surge at the end.

Yea, I get that. But do you think that Barnett could have even come close to that "flukish surge" at the end? He'd have thrown two bounce passes and fumbled on a zone read. Game over... we lose 27-7.

Sam has some talent. That is why i said this thing is perplexing. I'm not knocking Sam at all.

Can't say. I saw the Oklahoma State game, and I saw the Kansas State game. I can't say which game would have happened at the end.
 
There are two good things that can be said about the first two games. A) they are over B) I think the players and coaches realize not everything was left on the field. That is a crappy feeling and should help the coaching staff fire the guys up for a few more games. They have to get an offense that is competent but if they can do that, they can finish this season 4 -8 or 5 - 7. The talent is there, just need it all to start pulling in the same direction.

If we finish 5 -7 somehow, that would be a great win for this coaching staff, that would also mean they played the last 10 games at 5-5 and would give CPR his first minimum 4 win season in the B12.

Not really sure what your getting at. You mean if Richardson was QB in those games? Well he wasnt and we lost both and neither had a surge at the end. I think the argument was that he is capable of it, not that it will always happen or that he will always win. The guy has some talent we havent seen at ISU for a while whether you like it or not. Still it hasnt resulted in wins yet so what is missing?

you lost both? I seem to remember some big deal being made out of one of those games...
