First up, I don't want this to become a band-bashing thread, please. Like the band or not, college football would not be college football without them. Go attend NFL games instead of NCAA if you don't like having live music.

Anyways, for those that actually care about the school fight songs, they are taking out "For I For S" during the ISU-flip. Instead, they're playing "Rise Sons". I think it'll be an interesting change overall. That, and I can't wait to see their new tunnel for the team entrance.

Aw man! I like For I For S as a song, even though it was a ***** to play. What's the reason for the change?

Not to bash, but I don't think the band is what separates college football from the NFL - even more, the NFL has better halftime live music than college football.

to be fair, without the marching band, we wouldn't have our convenient cues for when it's a good time to go to the bathroom. Also, it's hard to be charged up 100% of the time. To quote Vince McMahon "if you want people standing up for your show, you have to give them a chance to sit down, too."

And, i realize after posting this, how much like bashing this sounds. And, to be honest, it sort of is, but not intended to be a put down. My best friend in the world, man who's had my back since I was a kid, was a member of the marching band, and we give each other no end of crap, so it's become something of a thing for us for me to take shots at the band, with him taking shots back. I love you band, and am probably one of six people left on the planet who knows all of the words to the Bells of Iowa State.

Shut up Cubsy!

The band has much more connection the the university and tradition than any NFL halftime show... ever.

Besides the Super Bowl, I don't think I've ever seen an NFL game with live halftime music. In my experience it's always some stupid **** like lumberjack games or the letting the local pee-wee football teams screw around on the field for 15 minutes.

Now if ISU started doing this it would be worth sticking around for halftime. ISU could probably even get Sthil to sponsor the halftime show!

THOSE ARE CRAPPY IDEAS MEANT TO MAKE YOU APPRECIATE THE BAND! WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO HURT ME CYCRAZY!

The return of Rise Sons! I don't think Rise Sons has been in the pregame show since like 2001.

Rise Sons is a good song. Here are the words to any who are interested:

Rise sons of Iowa State and proudly raise your flaming banner to the sky. Lift your ringing challenge valiantly, let the fighting war cry ever be "Victory!" Bold sons of Iowa State keep marching onward ever near the victr'y gate. There to consecrate your ever lasting loyalty, rise Iowa State.

And yes to any others in the know, I'm outing myself as having learned these words as a member of the Iowa Statesmen men's choir.

One of the best parts of the band is you learn every word to the bells of iowa state and sing it every day after practice. They also sing it after the game once or twice. Its too bad because of all the tradition the isucf'v'mb has with their pregame routine.

Also....

THE BALL IS A RUBBER CHICKEN

Freshman year (2003) I heard constant references to Rise Sons from my guides... usually followed by Rock Lobster yells.

The problem with For I For S was that the hardest part of the song was during the transition. Seriously, whoever thought "oh lets have the trombone section high step while making a bunch of runs and THEN do a 180 flip in the middle of those runs" was dumb (had longer rant here).
