Maybe there is another thread about this. But looking at the Hawks signing day it is average in my eyes. But looking at the states the players are from, UI is still recruiting around the midwest. In my mind and the rest of the country is that speed wins football games, such as in the SEC and soon Big 12, but Iowa is still recruiting the fat and slow linemen. Florida and Texas are the states to go to for athletes and I am very happy to see the amount of talent we are getting out of the south. Today was a good day no matter what ranking we are in.

Really? Guillory (RB commit) runs the 40 in 4.3 This may be one of the fastest classes Iowa has signed in a while. Some very good speed is coming in.

Actually I think Iowa has an above average class. That's not a rip on them either. They've got some playmakers. I'm not sold on either of their running backs though, but that's just from watching videos.

Wienke's videos look very good. He is not a dual-threat but will be a very good pro-style QB.

Exactly.. I thought Iowa really landed some great players, but Im not sure they landed enough Big 10 running backs who can play immediately.

Hey Southern, was Brinson recruited by Florida? I didn't see them listed, but a friend told me they made a late run at him.

I think Iowa recruited well on the defensive side of the ball. I have a feeling this class will represent well in 3 to 4 years. Much like ours will.

This looks like a solid class for Iowa. It’s not a Top 10 or 25 class but where has that got them recently…

KF and crew need to get back to recruiting guys that fit their system like they did with Dallas Clark, Bob Sanders, etc and not necessarily go after the 4-star guys with questionable character that were turned away by the big boys like they have been doing recently.

average class for iowa... i would rate ISU's ahead just because it is a more athletic class that may not be as good straight out of highschool, but has much more upside, my breakdown of the iowa class is this...
QB: Wienke, and Vandenberg are no better than christiansen(who wasnt good to start with) and they will have to sit 2-3 years behind him, neither will amount to much
RB: Pinning hopes on high rated JUCO running back isnt a good idea (see JJ Bass) and a bunch of 5'9" kids need to run better than 4.5sec 40's or else they are going to get creamed. Brinson has most upside
WR/TE:Prater is only 158lbs wont see the field for 2 year at least till he gets to 180-190.. staten looks like good prospect, definitely has the size, 2 decent TE... imo gimm wont be much more than a blocker herman could be effective
OL:Ferentz and McMillan both need to bulk up (esp. ferentz) may be good in 2-3 years, no immediate impact
DL:Reily Reiff will be only one to see the field next year at all others need to get bigger, Semmes and Gaglione need size to complement 4.6 in the 40
LB:
DB:Cato will be good, prater need to bulk up considering he only weighs 159 (1pound more than his WR brother) Swanson is to slow for CB maybe a saftey
ATH:Paine could be a solid corner, Castillo needs a redshirt year to get bigger also, probably a CB prospect also. If blackwell puts on 15pounds, he could be a good OLB will 4.5 speed... imo blackwell is the best in the iowa class

Yeah, Brinson was recruited by Florida, because of his size and power.

Guillory runs the 40 in 4.3 seconds, and had 2,000+ yards last year. He was also committed to North Carolina, then Kansas State, and was deciding late between TAMU and Iowa (after de-committing).

He's a very solid pickup IMO, and will make an immediate impact.

You have a pretty stong opinion on these guys. You base this on what?

hey do you know a guy by the name of JJ Bass??? he was 4* out of JUCO and he did nothing last year and hes 2" taller and 20lbs bigger than guillory and ran a 4.4.... just saying dont pin your hopes at RB on that kid

and oh yea.... we got the best 3 recruits of our two classes combined

Wow... apparently JJ Bass not playing due to injury didnt reach your brain

Me? I base my opinions on the same thing that ya'll base your opinions on incoming ISU recruits on. So, why don't you tell me?

Best 3 recruits.... who/why? I'm curious, because you seem to think that ISU's class is so much better than Iowa's - and it very well may be. But let's be honest here, right now, there is no way any of us know how these players are going to turn out.

The only thing we can look at right now is talent coming out of high school, and according to the "experts", Iowa has more of it. That may or may not be true, but I'm not sure how you can be so certain that ISU hit a gold mine and Iowa flopped?

I wouldn't say JJ Bass did nothing.

Give the kid a break. He had a whole world of expectations to live up to and did well when he wasn't injured. We will see a lot of JJ this fall, mark my words.

Wes Johnson didnt do much for a portion of this year either... what a waste.

** sarcasm** In case some of you didnt realize

Look at how far Iowa has fallen. They're bragging about some junior college running back who will probably flunk out in one semester and about stealing last minute recruits away from Akron and Villanova.
