Jack Trice throw backs

*Stadium named for him.
*Statue of him outside stadium.
*Club section inside stadium bears his name.
*Wall outside club section has artwork featuring him.

How much more needs to be done?

I'm not in the "retire #37" camp. If anything, let the coaching staff award that number annually to someone who epitomizes what an Iowa State student-athlete should be.
Cant do that....have a qb wear #37

There is no NCAA rule that prohibits it. The only position that can't wear #37 is an offensive lineman -- and even then, an interior lineman can wear #37 on kicking downs. Every other position is fair game.

Aww shucks. Glad to help. The way I view it is lots of other people have done wonderful research into Jack Trice's life including Tom Emmerson, Steven Jones, Mike Chapman, and Dorothy Schwieder. I'm just glad I was able to provide that last crucial step in Jack's story so ISU can change his number from unknown/unconfirmed to confirmed.

Others may have done some good research, but I don't think any of us were even claiming to know the number until you disclosed it in your article.

P.S. A link to that article would be very appropriate in this thread. Can you do that for us JK?

The article that confirmed his number as 37:

Just for fun here's the other article I wrote highlighting his high school pictures:

I'm currently working on at least three more stories involving him that will come out this fall on Cyclone Fanatic and my site.

Thanks. Great to read the first one again ... and I hadn't seen the second one. Have family visiting from Akron, so they really enjoyed the Cleveland connection.

No relation. We both just happen to have connections in Akron. We have never met, but I kind of like him. He is definitely a serious Cyclone Fanatic, so I definitely like him for that.

I hadn't seen those previously. I'm really impressed--good job. I can't wait to see the other stories this fall.

Man, he died for his school.

I don't think it's our place to decide what he "died for." We're all proud to call him a Cyclone, but it's not our part to make bold statements as to what defined him as a person. Trice himself said "The honor of my race, family and self is at stake," so he clearly put those things ahead of his school, as he should have.

If Iowa State were to ever formally decide to do anything with this number, I would be in the camp of wanting to see a handful of student athletes (not even one per season, necessarily) honored with the opportunity to don his number.

I kind of like that idea. Maybe have one rotating team (or honorary) captain wear it every game? Whoever shows the most effort and drive to the coaches, or based on a vote from the team?

Would have been cool if Jake or AJ could of worn it for one game, then have it retired forever.

It's really amazing this hasn't happened. Iowa State has been searching for an identity and history for the football program. We have the amazing story and legacy of Jack Trice that other programs would love to have

Retire #37. Jack Trice era throwbacks. Awards/honors. ISU should do all of this and more to celebrate our fallen hero
What school would love to have a player die because of on field injuries?
