Jack Trice throw backs

You absolutely wear them for TX if it is actually happening. This is about more than just cool jersey's. Think of the recruiting exposure from the story of Jack Trice. Not only is Trice's story inspiring, but the support he had from the Ames community at that time (when it was rare most places), and still in modern ISU history when it was the student body that demanded the stadium be named after him. Then the fact that it remains the only stadium in college football named for an African American. It's a story that is not even as well known in Iowa as it should be, putting it on a national stage is a no brainer. You don't waste that on a game which is primarily viewed by in state viewers. You want Texas high schoolers watching that story.

That way instead of the national broadcast showing a cornfield a barn and a silo somewhere miles away from Jack Trice they're broadcasting the statue of Jack Trice, or the name on the side of the stadium, or the mural of Jack Trice in the entrance of our brand new state of the art practice facility. And those kids who play HS football in TX don't end the game thinking that ISU is in the middle of a massive corn field with no sign of any sort of civilization.

Well said. This should be an annual game to honor Jack that is long overdue, maybe have it on the date closest to the date he died on Oct. 6 I believe. Texas fits it perfectly for this year. But on the other hand maybe this event needed to have a build up and gain momentum, which has happened in no small part due to this site. Assuming it's Texas I'm more excited about this game than the Iowa game.

Anybody think this might be part of a larger agreement between Iowa and ISU?

When they unveiled the new Cy-Hawk Trophy for use last year (remember the farmer family), perhaps UI and ISU agreed that in 2012 and 2013, the home team would wear throwbacks from the time that their respective stadium namesake played?

Kinnick-era throwbacks last year for Cy-Hawk... and Trice ones this year. (I have no clue if UI's throwbacks from last year actually were Kinnick-era or not.)

That's the only reason why I think these could be for the Iowa game, as I would agree the Texas game would make more sense otherwise.

Iowa's throwbacks last year were from 1921-22. Nile Jr. played in 1939.

Just realized that I wasn't sure if they were from his era right before you posted this

Still potentially an option that the schools agreed on throwbacks for back-to-back games, maybe.

if and when Trice's #37 gets retired, I will sob like a little girl in section D.

This will be amazing, God should grant us automatic victory on this day, whether its Iowa or Texas, I don't really care.

It's really amazing this hasn't happened. Iowa State has been searching for an identity and history for the football program. We have the amazing story and legacy of Jack Trice that other programs would love to have

Retire #37. Jack Trice era throwbacks. Awards/honors. ISU should do all of this and more to celebrate our fallen hero

I'm referencing the pics on the first page of this thread.....ugly. Those don't look like sweater jerseys, they look like the material used in today's jerseys in that rendering.

You know ... we couldn't retire his number until Joshua Kagavi did the research to find out what his number was.

If this all turns out to be a big tribute to Jack Trice, then we can thank Joshua for providing the crucial missing link (the actual number worn by Jack Trice).

Aww shucks. Glad to help. The way I view it is lots of other people have done wonderful research into Jack Trice's life including Tom Emmerson, Steven Jones, Mike Chapman, and Dorothy Schwieder. I'm just glad I was able to provide that last crucial step in Jack's story so ISU can change his number from unknown/unconfirmed to confirmed.

An opinion that is not widely shared and may well be an outlier.

*Stadium named for him.
*Statue of him outside stadium.
*Club section inside stadium bears his name.
*Wall outside club section has artwork featuring him.

How much more needs to be done?

I'm not in the "retire #37" camp. If anything, let the coaching staff award that number annually to someone who epitomizes what an Iowa State student-athlete should be.
