Is an up and comer the right answer for ISU? ISU's biggest disadvantage is that they can't recruit favorably against schools with nicer facilities and a better history of winning. In my view, if you want to close that gap, you find an NFL coordinator and hire him. This will give a reason for good recruits to come to ISU. Of course, it may be difficult to lure a decent NFL coordinator as they already make a decent salary -- I don't know who is out there and if there are any good fits or not.

I still think someone with no Iowa/ISU ties is that way to go.
Nobody should be scared of a coach leaving because he has success here at Iowa State. That means he HAD SUCCESS and it will be easier to start over again.
Maybe, I do like Loney though. Harbaugh would be a great choice IMO. Gene Chizik at UT. Seems like there is a good crop of candidates this year and not necessarily a huge batch of job openings.
I won't be happy until I see it on the front of cyclones.com, but it will do for now
