Jared Terrell for 2014 would be the other notable, and because he would most likely be a combo deal with Abu this board would have to approve.
Before everyone gets on "we need to recruit bigs" sky is falling kick. If you look at ESPN considering list below 80% of the players are either PF or C's. Fred know how he wants to construct his team and we are aware he wants shooters. If CFH signs 9 6'4" SG I am fine with it.

Yeah, I don't have a feel for how hard Fred is going after Terrell, I was just mentioning a SG that we still were recruiting. I read an article about Terrell and Abu still teaming up and Abu mentioned ISU as one of the schools recruiting him. I was just reading in between the lines that if one committed that school would be high on the others list. that is why I was implying that if Terrell were to commit it would be in large part due to Abu coming to Ames.
Terrell didn't mention ISU in that interview.
Of course we've been paying attention. Fred offering so many shooting guards is understood, we get it. We were just saying that we didn't think (hypothetically) both Vaughn and Macura could come on board with Custer, because we'll surely get 1 'big'.

Keep in mind order does matter with recruiting. Say Rashad Vaughn is our next commit - the coaches would likely tell Macura the spot's been filled and he no longer has a committable offer. Now if Macura were the next commit, Vaughn would absolutely still have a spot. You don't tell a player of Vaughn's caliber that there's no room, you make room. So there is a reasonable scenario that both Macura and Vaughn end up Cyclones. Also know that the coaches are probably recruiting 1 over the scholarship chart. So while there are only 3 graduating seniors this year, there will probably be at least 4 recruits in this class.

Assuming Fred & Co. think we still have a good chance with Vaughn and Cunningham, I doubt they'd accept a commitment from Macura. I imagine that's how his offer was presented.
Unless they value Macura similarly to Cunningham. It's possible they'd let one commit before pulling the other's offer in favor of Vaughn. I have a feeling they wouldn't offer unless they felt they could accept a commitment. That'd be an awkward conversation:
"We'd like to offer you a scholarship."
"Awesome! I accept your offer!"
"Oh uhhh yeah about that..."
Obviously only the coaches and the recruit know the actual situation, I just think offering a scholarship but not allowing a kid to commit could burn a bridge with a player a lot faster than telling him they want to see what their other targets do before offering. The former way could seem disingenuous to some recruits and rub them the wrong way. You very well could be right, though.
Some folks think Macura is a top shooter in the '14 class (a la Matt Thomas). Fred LOVES shooters and has shown he'll put as many as he can on the floor at one time in the name of spreading out the defense. I think it would kill Fred to pass up on a shooter like that on the CHANCE of landing RV. Keep in mind, Macura may not be ready to play his frosh year, and RV will be in college for about ... 8 months.

They just have to be honest with the kid on how he would fit in and still let them know they are serious about wanting him in the program if there is playing time. An offer is just an official way of saying we really like you please consider Ames.
After all your going to offer many players that will not end up committing. It isn't practical to say we have 3 opening in 2014 so we can only extend three offers to 2014 players and wait to see where they commit before extending another.
In Macura's case, while we may not have a glaring need at SG next year currently who knows exactly what the roster will look like next summer. Injuries, transfers, grades or suspensions IMO aren't likely with our current guys but they can happen. It is much better to have a relationship on going with quality recruits that may be able to commit. Rather than stop recruiting all SG types and get left holding the bag this time next year. It is the prudent thing to do. That is why I am a little confused with people worried about an offer extended to him.

Offers that wouldn't be immediately accepted happen all of the time. The clarity of which that offer is made is often debated.
This is how I'm guessing Fred views SG's or wings that can shoot.

You're right they do although I think it is more prevalent in football. But really none of us know for sure whether or not his offer is "committable" so to speak.
I guess this is the problem with actually getting talented players on campus and not having DII players sitting at the end of our bench. I wish we had 5 scholarships to offer - Custer, Macura, Vaughn, Cunningham, Big Man. My uninformed POMA opinion is that Macura will accept as soon as Vaughn or Cunningham pick another squad.
Sign up Macura and Grandstaff, and I don't think there will be a better shooting team in the country in a few years.
