We're almost exactly halfway through the year. What music that's been released this year are people digging?

These are probably my favorite so far:
-Queens of the Stone Age "...Like Clockwork". This is probably the best thing Josh Homme has ever put out. God. Damn. This is my album of the year, so far. If it gets trumped, I will be very happy.

-Jason Isbell "Southeastern". He just keeps getting better. His voice sounds amazing on this album and the songs are just killer.
Jason Isbell - Cover Me Up - YouTube

-Bonnie Whitmore "There I Go Again". Wicked-catchy Stonesy countryish rock. If anyone here is a Hayes Carll fan, she's the other singer on "Another Like You". No clips of this new album on Youtube, but its on Spotify.

-John Moreland "In the Throes". This guy should be MUCH bigger than he is. Crazy talented (plays all instruments on his newest album) artist who drifts back and forth from folkier acoustic based rock with a little twang to straight ahead Petty/Springsteen-esque rock and roll when he's backed by the Black Gold Band.
John Moreland "Nobody Gives A Damn About Songs Anymore" - YouTube

-Hiss Golden Messenger "Haw". Chilled out fuzzy folk/rock. Strong Petty influences on this one too (seems to be a running theme with the stuff I'm listening to this year".
Hiss Golden Messenger - Red Rose Nantahala - YouTube

-The National "Trouble Will Find Me". A band I'm just starting to get into. Seems to be another quality release for them. They really have a distinctive sound that I struggle to describe other than it has a lot of dreamy, fuzzy guitar, some good key work, and really strong drumming.
The National - I Should Live In Salt - All Tomorrow's Parties The National ATP - 09.12.12 - YouTube

This is a bold statement considering Josh Homme is responsible for Kyuss's Blues For the Red Sun...

It's a great record but I was super bummed to hear that Homme had dismissed Joey Castillo who I consider to be the best of the Queens drummers.

QOTSA are back???

Agree that The National was good. I like the My Bloody Valentine comeback  Strokes was meh. First person to say Vampire Weekend gets negged.

Al, are you the guy who likes all the Driveby Truckers type stuff?

22 by Taylor Swift is drunkenly sung by my friends and I every now and again. Because we're 22.

Thought the new Daft Punk was boring. Actually really like the new Black Sabbath tune but am disappointed Bill Ward isn't part of the project.

Agreed, Vampire Weekend's latest album was really disappointing.

Daft Punk is really good.

A few good 2013 albums off the top of my head:

The National - Trouble Will Find Me
Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends
Daughter - If You Leave
Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob
Bear Mountain - Xo
Sin Fang - Flowers
K. Flay - West Ghost
Bastille - Bad Blood
Atlas Genius -When It Was New

If you have spotify you can listen to the whole album. I recommend it. It's vintage Sabbath. Already charting at #1 and it's been out 2 days. This might be my favorite album until NIN's comes out and then new Foos.

Well, he's certainly the most expendable member of Black Sabbath. But yeah, it's not the same.

I liked Daft punk, but it was underwhelming for sure. It almost feels like they are entering an "emeritus" phase, where they do things like Santana did with that one album where he had a bunch of guest singers on each song. Sadly, I think the prospects of them ever releasing another Homework or Discovery are pretty much dead now.

Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends - thats sweet. I am also into Alt-J, Arcade fire, Django Django, Tame Impala, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mona, Kid Astray, New Politics, Everything Everything... The alt rock scene right now is easily the best in a decade... I catch alot of good acts on TV, like Conan and Kimmel... plus the old standby XM station Alt Nation... believe it or not Iowa Public Radio may be the hippest radio in iowa, specifically studio one from 7pm to 10pm every night.. Studio One on IPR Studio One | Iowa Public Radio

My buddy found these guys. I like them a lot.

Iron & Wine - Ghost On Ghost
Eels - Wonderful, Glorious
Camera Obscura - Desire Lines
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
She & Him - Volume 3

Looking forward to new Travis, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes and Emily Barker albums later in the year. It's shaping up to be a pretty great year for music.

Love Tame Impala but Lonerism was released last year. Just heard Elephant on some commercial last week.

Loved the new Iron and Wine release. Can't wait to see the show at Hoyt Sherman in September.
