Tonight is the draft. Cubs have the second pick. I really want them to take Appel but would be fine with Gray and Bryant as well. Who do you guys want?

I kinda hope the cubs take that 3rd baseman. Valbuena isn't a long term solution and I don't see one in our farm system.

As a Twins fan, I am hoping that Gray falls to them at 4. But I could def see them messing up if he doesn't fall to them and at a catcher as some predict.

Also, how talented is Kohl Stewart. He denies a football scholarship to play QB at A&M to go top 10 in the draft.

How awesome would it have been to have this decision to make when you were in High School?

Always go with best available, regardless of position. College pitchers seem like the safest.

You have to always go best available. Since pretty much everyone in the draft is at least 2 years out (except maybe the top 3), you have no idea what your needs will be 2+ years from now.

Was just reading an article about how the baseball draft is such a crap shoot. In the 2002 draft B.J. Upton was selected 2nd. The 1,3,4 and 5 picks were all pitchers. Between them, these 4 pitchers won a total of 9 MLB games in their career. There were some really good players drafted later in the first round - Grienke, Fielder, Hamels, Swisher and Cain.

I would like to see the Twins pick Stewart if they are convinced that he will sign for 4th slot value. There is more risk involved with selecting a high school pitcher, but he is considered by some to have the highest upside of any pitcher in the draft. Give him a couple years in the minors and then join a powerhouse big league team with all of the top line talent currently at Cedar Rapids and Ft Meyers.

And they make better trade bait.

As a Royals fan, I would love to see them pick up an owner but unfortunately it doesn't work like that.

Byron Buxton here in crapids is the ******* real deal. I can tell you that.

He can always go back and play college football if his baseball career doesn't pan out.

you guys have been spoiled in recent years with Trout, Buxton, and Sano. Does Buxton > Sano to you?

Sano wasn't in cedar rapids ever I don't believe. Buxton is the best minor league player I've seen here obviously not named trout. I think he could be an effective mlb player in a year, and will probably be an all-star a handful of times in his career.

I thought Sano spent last year in Cedar Rapids? He's in Ft. Myers now.
