DeAndre Kane visiting next week

One of the most telling things of Kane's type of talent in my opinion...
The Marshall fans are excited to watch Dre face off with West Virgina 2 more time. West Virginia boards are concerned that now they have to face Kane 2 more times.

4 years ago we were complaining because McDermott couldn't win bringing in a bunch of midwestern boys, and many said he needed to "get with the times" and take some risks. The same people also claimed that we can't sit around for 3-4 years and wait for those kids to develop.

Now we have Fred, bringing in talent from all over the country, albeit with alot being transfers. He is bringing in proven players who may be "risks" and some are now made we aren't developing enough talent.

Geesh. We are winning. By-and-large are players are staying out of trouble. Who cares?
We probably had more problems with the tailend group of the McD players.

The hawk fan base is whinny because Fred continues to bring in quality basketball players that make ISU NCAA worthy. They are hypersensitive to all of this stuff even though it has nothing to do with them. The best part? It appears they have accepted the commitment of their second transfer under Franny. However, it's different for iowa. Because.

I think many Hawk fans were hoping that with all the talent that we lost that they might be able to steal a win in Hilton early in the year. If Kane solidifies the back court that severely lessens their chances.

Yep, we felt the same way when KU landed Wiggins and the Memphis transfer. Those signings immediately changed their season outlook for next season.

Hawk fans whine about every program that brings in anyone with a past. Instant thug label.

Well they would know... City Boyz Inc. forever.

Yeah, there's absolutely nothing wrong with bringing in a few transfers to balance out the experience on the team. Fred brought in Niang last year then Morris and Thomas this year. He is bringing in young talent. Transfers now are just providing some experience and production while the young players develop.

Could honestly see that happen to this years Iowa team.

That would mean Iowa would have to get into the dance this year while not playing one of the easiest schedules in the history of basketball like last year and be seeded as an 8 or better. Yea no chance

Kane is a huge plus not only for this year, but will be instrumental for developing Morris as well. Whoever starts at PG (and I have to believe Kane will be in the starting 5), I hope Morris plays major minutes.

That said, I thought I saw something about Kane playing out of position for some of his time at Marshall; is he more of a natural PG who played some at SG or vice versa?

Natural slashing shooting guard, who was forced to play the 1 (Think Jake Anderson style). Though I think he has good enough handle of the ball to play the point, it isn't totally natural.

It's kind of subjective, but I believe he is more a combo guard than a PG but due to circumstances played a lot of point. He already said that the coaching staff talked to him about playing point and he is fine with it. What he didn't say but Fred probably did is that if he has any thoughts of playing at the next level it will be at the point so he better demonstrate his best stuff at that position this coming year.

That should work out well for him at ISU. He can play more point early in the season and maybe they can work in Morris with him more as the season progresses and Kane can work off the ball then. I love having more than one guy on the court that can really handle the rock.

I'm picturing a tougher, better defending Chris Allen. Except this time we'll have a natural point guard, Morris, to step in right away or be worked in slowly, and ready for big 12.
