Official 2014 Recruiting thread

That's pretty much how I understood most of that. I don't understand how rivals has Lazard as the top WR and they rank him 33rd and the whole "aiming high" comment is just degrading

Rivals must see something in Lazard the other sites don't. ESPN, Scout, and 24/7 all have Lazard rated 15th or lower at his position (whether WR or ATH). It will be interesting to see how the rankings transpire over the summer.

Yeah, they do. They've actually seen him in person multiple times.

Since Rivals sponsors recruiting events, they've actually seen Lazard. He will be a 5 star in their next rankings.

The new commit is from Texas. He had zero other offers.

It is either:

Orion Salters

or

Victor Holmes

or

All guys are from Texas and their only offer is from ISU.

Props to all of you who have already guessed these guys. I was a little late to the guessing game party. My guess is Victor Holmes.

Whoever it is, welcome to the ISU family!

Has anyone logged onto CycloneReport.com's Confidential message board to see who it is exactly? I'd rather know who it is than continue this charade.

Careful, the CycloneReport police will come on here and chastise you for not paying the money.

It's not about that. It's about people asking those who are members to share the info. It's part of the agreement that we cannot share that info, otherwise we could lose our membership.

I am a little bored at work today as I don't have much to do until 4. So with the recent draft in mind I wanted to look back at our recruits a little bit. I am using Rivals stars and rating for comparison. I just would note that we signed a lot of 2 star recruits and many of them were significantly below the 5.5 threshold for three starts.

Carter Bykowski (2008, Chiz recruit), TE, 2 stars, 5.1 rating
Leonard Johnson (same) ATH, 3 stars, 5.5
Roosevelt Maggitt (same) DE, 2 stars, 5.3
Jake McDonough (same) DE, 3 stars, 5.5

(all are Chiz recruits but were mostly developed by Rhoads and the current staff) Really not too bad considering three of the four are now signed or playing in the NFL.

A.J. Klein (2009, Rhoads), 3 stars, 5.5 rating (drafted 5th round?)
Jake Knott (same), 2 star, 5.4 (signed free agent)
Josh Lenz, 2 star, 5.2 (signed free agent)
Jeremy Reeves, 2 star, 5.1 (not sure?)
Willie Scott, 2 star, 5.2 (starting)
Jacques Washington, 2 star, 5.2 (starting)
Jansen Watson, 2 star, 5.3 (top starting corner?)
James White, 3 stars, 5.5 (significant # of starts)
Walter Woods, 2 star, 5.4 (starting)

Anyway, I think that was one heck of a first class that the coaches put together in a short period of time if I remember correctly. It also shows that they can develop players at many of these positions and get the most out of them. However, IMO stars definitely do matter especially at the skill positions as you just can't coach that kind of athleticism. I just glanced at WVU's list and noted their 2009 commits, Tavon Austin, 4 stars, 5.8 rating (and #8 pick this year), Stedman Bailey, 4 stars, 5.8 rating (drafted 2nd round?), and Geno "Cry baby" Smith, 4 stars, 5.9 rating.

Just my 30 minutes of wasting time but just reinforced my admiration of what this staff has been able to accomplish. It also points to why I'm (and everyone) should be so excited to see what a highly ranked skill guy like Allen Lazard might be able to do at ISU.

Just a question for all you guys that probably know more than me. With a guy like Dakota Allen (two star prospect lots of offers) is it possible that he is getting all these offers because either this year or next there is a big time recruit from his school and the university thinks have tis guy will help bring that other guy? Not that I don't want this guy alone looks like a very solid player but just a general question.
