Recruit Lists v2.0

Nick Noskowiak was being hotly pursued/followed by Marquette this weekend. Good program but Fred utilizes Nick's skills better than Buzz. They were a physical team that couldn't shoot a '3' to save their lives. Fred will never have a team that can't shoot and knows exactly what to do with shooters.

Nick is way more than a shooter, however. He's very good.

Here's a scouting report I saw for Quadri Moore. Credit to Chad Brendel of a Cincinnati site.

" It is hard to miss Quadri Moore when you walk into the gym as the 6-foot-9 big man has a huge frame. He isn't the most athletic guy in the world, so it is likely his future is going to be spent guarding post players but what he lacks in some areas he makes up for with the ability to put the ball in the basket. Moore has a perimeter game that just doesn't exist in many guys his size, and he has a natural and smooth form every time. As a pick and pop center he will be able to stretch a defense and create problems off the ball screen."

Sounds like the perfect fit for Fred's system

Agreed. Imagine Georges Niang with 2 more inches of height and an extra 20 pounds. I think Moore might be more perimeter orientated than Niang, though, whose specialty is really in the paint.

In the Rob Dauster/ NBC recruiting update writte this weekend at the PittJam - Moore did not mention us as recruiting him... FWIW.

agreed. Will the in-state/ "bigger name" (at least to people in his neck of the woods) program have more allure?

Of course we have Matt Thomas, who apparently keeps in touch with him... as well as the style of play reasons you mentioned... a long time to go in a 2015's recruitment...

Couple of short recaps of the 2013 NY2LA Sports Spring Extravaganza perfomances with ISU intrest. (Not sure I have seen DJ Davis mentioned as and intrest before.)

DeJon “DJ” Davis – 2014 – G – Net Gain Sports
6-3 – Kennedy HS – Bloomington, MN

Davis is a big, strong guard who can handle the ball in transition and score in traffic. The junior was a workhorse and dug Net Gain out of a double-digit deficit in the second half against TP Elite with his effort.
Dejon Davis listed interest from Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Hampton, and Lehigh

Lamonte Bearden – 2014 – PG – Wisconsin Swing
6-2 – Germantown HS – Germantown, WI

Bearden helped lead a first half comeback for the Swing against the Iowa Barnstormers. The junior took over late in the half, slicing the Barnstormers with dribble penetration. Bearden scored a game-high 19 points in a losing effort.

From twitter...

Coaches from Creighton, Green Bay, Iowa State, Loyola, Northern Iowa all watched Neenah soph Matt Heldt (6-10) on Monday.

Georges is the better perimeter player.

I didn't say he wasn't, just that Georges's forte is in the post while Moore is more perimeter oriented. Niang is still a better perimeter (though possibly not shooter), but Moore still spends a lot more time away from the basket than down low.

Thanks for the information, but I don't put a whole lot of stock on those lists. 4* guys like Moore have a bunch of schools recruiting them and arbitrarily leave schools off all the time at those events.

...and just like that, Jeff Borzello/ CBS comes out with an article that lists ISU...

2014 big man Quadri Moore creating headaches for opponents - CBSSports.com

"Wake Forest, Providence, Seton Hall, Purdue, Iowa State and others have all offered, with Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Cincinnati and Tulsa showing varying levels of interest. Ranked in the top five among centers in the class of 2014, Moore is a coveted prospect. 'Just a good program, good academics,' Moore said when asked what he's looking for in a school. 'Location isn't really a problem for me.' Moore is No. 84 in the 247 Sports Composite rankings."

Location not being a problem could definitely open the door for ISU. I am glad we contacted him early before the likes of Duke and Florida came calling.

Only problem is that if Wake Forest has offered and Duke and Georgetown are looking at him, it may be hard to win if academics are as important as they seem. I'm not in any way trying to bash ISU, but WF, Duke and Georgetown are some of the best programs in the nation for their academics. Luckily Wake Forest has a lousy basketball program now. I think if he wants to play right away that ISU will be his best shot.

Certainly a fair point. Being an impact player day 1 on an up and coming program with a rising star coach would be the selling point. Nothing ISU can offer that Duke and Georgetown can't besides immediate playing time. I think style of play is important as ISU plays completely different than Georgetown. Unaware of how Wake plays and Duke is Duke. Fred has yet to prove outside of Niang, that he can seal the deal with big guys so I am hoping we get 1. If we do, look out because this team will always have quality guards.

All players are offered playing time right away. Those that don't get it are the guys that usually transfer out of the school after the fresh and soph years. So yeah it sound good that we can offer him play right away. I would imagine every other team that is recruiting any player, offers that same opportunity. I think that worked better in the 80's and 90's before Freshman were expected to come on campus and start right away.

Not necessarily. I doubt Duke offers any top 50 player a ton of quality minutes immediately. KU doesn't, can't imagine Duke does. Take KU's Perry Ellis. He didn't see a whole lot of minutes for most of the season but probably would have started for ISU and he was a top 24 player overall.

Very good example.

Perry Ellis didn't see a ton of minutes. Does not mean bill Self didn't tell him that he could come in and play right away.
