Rhoads> Ferentz???

I'll say it. One top 20 finish since 2004. All while being paid like a top 10 coach. Not the sign of a good coach.
He has had 2 top 20 finishes since 2004. I'm not saying he is a great coach but you are nuts if you think he is completely lousy. The guy has had some great success at Iowa.

what does his pay have to do with his coaching ability?

this isn't a poll of the most overpaid/underpaid coaches.

As for the # of top 20 appearances since 2004, how many coaches have more than him?

I don't think you can argue against Nick Saban or Urban Meyer. They've both won at every stop they've been at.
I give more credit to Snyder taking the worst program in college football history at one time and turning them into a consistent winning team that has seen many 9, 10, and 11 win seasons. Not sure Urban or Saban could do that with the lack of talent K-State gets.

I don't think he is a lousy coach but I think he is way overpaid for what he has done.

Agreed...CPR has 0 top 20 finishes since 2004 but I'd still take him any day of the week over Ferentz. Then again I also spend more time on Twitter than MySpace so take it for what it's worth

So this season makes or breaks if you think he's a good coach when he's been there over a decade?

Aren"t, at some point, coaches graded by their body of work? Well, my time has come to decide on Kirk. Love the guy, but if he can't right the ship, then maybe time for a change. And I never thought I would say that. I'm sure you guys will say the same about Rhoades at some point. Like always, time will tell. But it happens to almost everyone, especially in coaching college athletics. What have you done for me lately is the current theme in society as a whole.

I think this is very well put. This is how I see it as well.

yes it is. There's a big difference between overpaid and lousy. I think Ferentz is a good football coach but that doesn't mean that I think he deserves to have one of the 5 highest coaching salaries.

He's an extremely average football coach. He's 32-32 in the Big Ten since 2004. A time during which the B10 has been arguably the worst it's ever been. He's being exposed now that the B10 is improving the coaching talent in the conference. Bielema raised Wisconsin's program past Iowa, Fitzgerald owns him. Ferentz has done well against Rich Rod and Paterno but now that those guys are gone Michigan and Penn St, even a heavily depleted Penn St program, are back to kicking Iowa's ***. Urban Meyer isn't going to play conservative like Tresell did, he's going to try to drop 60 on Iowa.

Did something happen that erased everything that happened in 2004 and prior?

Also, since you are the one who brought up the # of times his team finished in the top 20 of the coaching poll, please post the complete list of coaches that have done it more times.

Leave it up to a Hok fan to talk about how good someone was a decade ago...

Yeah, 8 years went by. The game has passed Ferentz by, he was able to lose the program and turn it back around once already, don't see him being able to do it again.
