how do they know there wasn't documentation of missed calls unless they combed through every call record and knew the numbers of each call recipient?

NCAA violations Investigation
Two basketball coaches were involved in the NCAA investigation involving impermissible phone calls/text messages, and attending an AAU event “was contrary to NCAA legislation.”
The two coaches involved were:
-Daniyal Robinson who was a part of Greg McDermott's staff as an assistant coach from 5/5/08-4/10/10. He was responsible for bringing in Chris Colvin and Laron Dendy.
-Keith "Lefty" Moore who was a part of Hoiberg's staff as a student assistant coach in charge of player development from 8/20/10-3/11.
There are no specifics on what exactly Robinson did from what I've read.
"Keith Moore sent 160 impermissible text messages to his former AAU players, including two that were being recruited by Iowa State at the time, the report found." Also the report said "Hoiberg ran into Moore in 2011 at one of Hoiberg's son's AAU games. Hoiberg asked why he was present at the game and whether he'd been contacting recruits. Moore admitted that he had been in contact with high school players that he had coached previously in AAU, the report said. Hoiberg reported the incident to the athletics department, which removed Moore of his duties with the team and started an investigation."
Here are the phone call violations breakdown:
Men’s Basketball — Impermissible calls: 147
Logging issues: 113
“True” violations: 34
* 25 of “true violations” were made by former staffers

Sport-by-sport, the violations were minor. Add them all together, all 18 programs worth, and it is "major" for the athletics department.
I guess when I think of big time punishment, like loss of a bowl game or reduced scholarships, I think that specific sport would have to be deemed "major."
I'm not an expert in this but I don't see that happening. Stay tuned though. A lot to digest in this report.

I feel sorry for the poor suckers that got tasked with going through nearly 3/4 million texts and phone calls just to make this report that yielded about 1400 violations. That this could happen at ISU makes you wonder how bad it is at bigger schools, especially in the SEC. You can't possibly tell me a SEC like say Alabama or LSU is squeaky clean when it comes to texts and phone calls.

He isn't ever funny. He is less knowledgeable about sports than my 91 year old grandma and he thinks he is the best thing to happen to sports radio in the last 50 years.

Hope the Register appreciates the "transparency," but I expect that they will have something else about us to gripe about tomorrow.
Exactly. I think the idea of 'major' freaks out people. The media in this state is stupid and is encouraging this line of thinking.
Nothing is going to happen. In other states, this wouldn't even be news, but the Register, the Tribune, and KXNO are probably hiring full time guys to work on this.
Another thing... since over 60% of the impermissible calls were by the football program, that's the only program I could see having additional sanctions. Men's basketball might too, but the main wrongdoers are no longer at the school, so I wouldn't anticipate any additional sanctions.
The fact that ISU self-reported this when most schools probably would not have I think the self-imposed sanctions will be what happens. You can't tell me that if any SEC school was as thorough as ISU was with their audit of this that they'd come up squeaky clean. I mean you can't even take a pee at Hilton without a Q&A on a compliance issue starring you in the face.
