Cornhole/Bags set

I had planned on making another set of cornhole boards this winter but had a kid. The boards in your pic are pretty common. I am going to make a nice set some time this summer. I know a couple of people who can make a wrap of the end of the OSU game I think I am going to slap on my boards.

These are the ones I made a while back. Hand Painted everything.

I've invited several women from work over for a game of Cornhole. No takers yet.

I finished this set in 2010. The design was modeled after the ones in the OP with some modifications. About two months after I finished them the athletic department modified its "secondary" logo, meaning the punching Cy that had been modified when the I-State logo was introduced was out. So now as an added bonus, my boards have the benefit of being retro.

I admire people's dedication who want to hand-paint their logos, but if you want decals there's an ISU alum who does them at a very reasonable price. I've worked with him on a couple of projects and everything has turned out great. The decals stick really well and with multiple layers of polycrylic slathered on they will be solid for years.

For decals, email: [email protected]

My avatar is the ones I made a couple summers ago. Hand painted logos. I also bought lights for the holes. Red in the yellow board and yellow in the red boards hole. Helps for playing at night and also looks pretty cool. Get a 6" hole saw bit for the holes. If you get lights, get them b4 you cut the holes so you can use them to ensure you don't have a lip.

Any pointers when painting these? I bought a nice set of un-painted boards last year and would like to paint them for this upcoming season.

Is it possible to use a sticker for the logo?

The ones I linked to above use high-quality decals for the logos. I finished the boards with multiple coats of stain, then applied the decals on top, then used polycrylic on top (lots of coats) to seal it. Works like a charm.

Just to make sure I do this right...

I want to somewhat replicate the ones u made Trice. I would assume I would lay down the paint color I want around the perimeter...then dry. Once dry, then apply the stain...then sticker/decal...then the poly. Correct?

Go opposite. Apply stain then paint. You don't want the stain leaking onto your paint. So I would go Stain > Paint > 1 coat of poly > decal > poly like crazy until it is wicked smooth.

When you say "perimeter" are you talking the paint around the sides of the boards, or the border that runs around the top of the board?

This was my process:
1. Stain everything - top, sides, undersides, everything. (Though fewer coats on the underside.)
2. Tape everything in preparation for painting the sides and borders on top.
3. Stain the top again. This way if anything is going to bleed through my tape, it would be stain rather than paint and won't be visible. Wait to dry.
4. Paint sides and borders. Wait to dry.
5. Apply decal.
6. Apply poly. Lots of layers, like as many as 6-8. Wait for each new layer to dry, obviously, though it dries quickly. They say you can use a fine sandpaper after a few layers but I never did.
