I have read a couple of places that once the ACC buyout is agreed on for Maryland to the Big 10 that it could get crazy again with expansion. I have also heard rumors that by adding all the Thursday night games to the schedule it is opening up the chance of adding BYU to the conference. I was really hopping the agreement between the Big 12 and ACC would open up the idea of a shared wrestling conference. That would give the Big 12/ACC wrestling conference 9 total schools (ISU, OU, OSU, WV, Vir. Tech, Vir., Duke, UNC, and NCST.) Now hearing maybe some of those schools are targets of the Big 10, that would suck. Any other thoughts?

Your proposed Big 12/ACC wrestling conference would be really lopsided. I went to the premier ACC wrestling matchup a couple of years ago (VT at NC State) and honestly, there were less people at that match than there were at my High School matches back in the day. This also included a national champion wrestler on NC State's roster.

For getting the extra seeds in the NCAA tournament, it would be good, but honestly, wrestling is a second thought here in tobacco road country. On a positive note, I think the high school talent here in North Carolina is relatively undiscovered and could help fill the ranks. And maybe association with the old Big 8 schools would help develop the ACC wrestling teams.

On a side note, I saw someone wearing an Iowa State wrestling shirt here on NCSU's campus a couple months back. That is honestly one more than the number of NCSU wrestling shirts I've seen on campus in the 5 years I've been here.

I don't know how well it would work for dual meets. But a joint Big XII/ACC qualifier would probably be something the wrestling coaches of both conferences would be amenable to.

If you're talking about wrestling leagues combining for a qualifying event, it would make the most sense for the Big 12 and MAC to partner up. That'd be a 13-team event, with much shorter travel.

We want to partner with schools we can beat.

I do not think that the Big 10 will stay together as a qualifying unit, if they add Maryland and North Carolina.

I think it still ends up a regional qualifying tourney, while protecting as many conference rivalries as possible.

Probably depends on the individual conferences. I have no knowledge of breaking up the Big 10, but I just don't see a conference as strong as the Big 10 and if they get bigger staying totally intact.

I think the Big 10 will try and want to stay together. I think it helps that they have the BTN and many top athletes want in the top conference. They will want to keep that draw
