Ames Trib article re: Ruempolhamer

I'll pretend that I didn't read that Ruempolhamer played club football in Europe.

The Ames Tribune/Mid-Iowa News/GoCyclones.com has an article today claiming that DT Stephen Ruempolhamer committed to ISU over the weekend.

Well Ruempolhamer is certainly near the top of my favorite student-athlete names assuming he sticks around. There are times I would kill to be the PA address announcer...

Here's hoping it's not Lucca part deux with his past club involvement. Shouldn't be but I've learned not to be optimistic about the NCAA.

However, both seem excited to be Cyclones, Mahoney in particular.

Does he play American football or the football the rest of the world plays? Lets hope the staff didnt get confused on that.

He is very athletic," Union coach Kirk Fridrich said. "He has a huge upside. His best football is ahead of him. He's barely scratched the surface on what he can do."

I wonder how many more cliches he can get in his quote.

I think the "club" part is because in Europe there are no school teams. There are just club teams from towns that compete against each other. Similar to baseball or hockey at Iowa State.

that isn't very generious for a fullback (soccer fullback) good soccer fullbacks in Europe are at least 6'3''

I know, I was going on the light side. It always amazes me to think that at 6-4 215, Oguchi Onyewu is an absolute monster on the pitch.

We used to have a guy from Germany that played a year or 2 of HS football and was an O or Dlineman for us. I imagine he's left us like many of the others. He did score on a 65 yard defensive touchdown this year.
