NFL: Vikings to trade Harvin?

I'm not surprised. It sounds like he doesn't want to be a Vike. Hopefully they can find a #1WR in free agency (Mike Wallace) or the draft.

harvin is a stud. it just hasn't worked out though. time to unload him

Harvin's one of the most talented and explosive players in the NFL, but the guy is hurt all the time and is a ******* head case. Get something for him while you can IMO. If he can't get along with Les Frazier, there's probably not a coach in the league he can get along with.

I like when he's on the field but with his migranes, injuries and attitude he's become a bigger headache than anything he has suffered. I'm definitely in favor of trading him...hopefully the Vikes can get some decent compensation

Only way I will get behind this is if we can trade him for a SOLID QB and a decent WR. If we end up trading him for a draft pick I'm going to kick Zigi Wilf in the nuts.

All the sources I am looking at say that he won't go for anything better than a second round draft pick. I agree that he can be a big headache in the locker room but he is a great player and other than AP, he is the biggest help to Ponder. Hopefully we can keep him. Signing him longer term and drafting a WR would be huge IMO. Harvin just needs to keep healthy and have a good attitude and the Vikings will be in good shape. You cannot let a player of his ability go for a 2nd round pick. Hopefully there will be a bidding war for him if we are looking to get rid of him.

This. If you can get him to play every game, he is a top 10 or even better skill player in the league. However, that is tough to get. If the vikings do trade him though, they absolutely must sign a receiver like Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings, or Victor Cruz with the cap room that they save.

Doing that would be much easier than drafting a #1 WR, which is a tough position to get in the mid-late first.

Value at DT, CB, S, and LB are all much better at that point in the draft than WR. And there are a ton of slot receivers to draft or sign for cheap to put in Harvin's spot (although they won't be nearly as good).

If they get a 2nd and a 4th for him I guess that is decent. I still think they might be able to snake a 1st, but provided it was an early 2nd I would be perfectly fine with that.

There is no way that the Vikings trade him for a QB. Ponder is their QB. Whether you like it or not. They will trade Harvin for picks.

This.

Ponder is the Vikings QB. He could be a really good QB in the NFL, just needs more weapons around him.

That might work in your fantasy league, not gonna happen in real life.

Yeah. loved Harvin but too fragile. Time to unload and get the best we can for him.

your understanding of how the NFL works is laughable. They will absolutely get a draft pick for him, probably a 2nd or a 3rd. He's not worth more than that, despite his talent. He's shown that he's prone to miss games, is kind of a head case, and is entering the last year of a contract. Those things devalue him enormously. Minnesota is not in a position of power when it comes to trading him. They can either deal him this year or risk getting nothing for him when he leaves for free agency, next year.

To be honest, I think a team pulls the trigger and offers a deal better than a 2nd and a 4th. I don't think a first will come, but I do think Spielman might get a more creative deal when it comes to compensation. There is a small shot a 1st could come, but it would be a late first most likely. He was taken with the 22nd pick IIRC, and he has proven to be even better than that when on the field. His headaches are not good, but it is a sellers market when it comes to a stud like Harvin. Harvin would be an upgrade at the slot for every single team except maybe the Patriots, and he is the most versatile player in the NFL.

I don't think the Vikings let go of him for less than premium price. Hell, Brandon Marshall went for two 2nds. I think a team would pay that for Harvin at least.

For those Vikings fans who are excited at this prospect, Eric Perkins on the radio this morning was disdainful of the report. He wouldn't say the talking head's name but refered to him as "The Coffee Drinker" and said there was a reason that he was the only one reporting this and no one else could come up with a whisper to back his claim up. He seemed to think that a trade was not in the offing.

I have no opinion in the matter.

Dan Wiederer of the Star Tribune?

Funny you say that, because that is a rumored trade destination. Welker is scheduled to be a free agent.
