thoughts on our wide-outs for next season...

Hamilton and Sumerall will be good, and carlson has blazing speed. IMO we still need to pick up either Deryn Bowser or Myron Dillard(also blazing fast) to bolster out pass catchers. either that or pick up Sedrick Johnson or Dekendrick Moncrief, neither of which look likely.... if we some how cant manage to get any of those 4 we are left with Derron Montgomery, Wallace Franklin and Euseph Messiah.

Messiah looked good when he got on the field, and we kept hearing that Franklin could beat anyone so lets hope they develop into some credible threats.

Bates should be the backup QB. They could do what Kansas did and play their backup as a WR but I don't think he's that much better than everyone else to warrant the risk. I assume they will redshirt Tiller to give him an extra year after Arnaud is gone so they will probably move Bates to WR full time starting in 2009.

I agree 100%, but, i still think that we will see a different Franklin this fall....I remember a post from Clones33 that said that him and Arnuad were good friends and hung out together....with arnaud moving into the starting lineup i see franklin dedicated and working to be in that starting lineup with him, i think you see him come into fall bulked up....just a guess....

Maybe clones33 could shed light on him a bit....

if franklin can get his size up to handle big12 play, we all know he has the speed and his routes are pretty good from what i've heard. Thats why i liked Graham so much(too bad), if we had Graham across from Hamilton and then put sumrall in the slot, that trio would have been a threat on every play.....

Also, don't count out Derron Montgomery....wasnt he a 3* with great size/speed???

I wouldn't count out Sedrick Johnson just yet. He just visited us this last weekend. Maybe he isn't sold on A&M. I have noticed that A&M has another receiver verballed who is rated higher than Johnson. Perhaps he feels our system is a better fit for his talents and he has a better chance for early PT here. But for him to come in for a visit is a positive thing. How do you think we have lost a few of our commits? They have some doubts. They visit. And then they think they might fit in better somewhere else. A lot of people have been critical of these young men changing their minds. But I would rather that we get recruits who are truly committed rather than sign them to a LOI and then have them change their mind shortly after making it to Ames, if they make it there at all.

The commits are researching for their best situation, but a majority depends on how well they are impressed by the coaches they will be playning for. Obviously Tim Brester has IT, but he may not be a good X and Os coach. Similar can be said for Callahan - good first impression but not a great playcaller.

Have you seen Deryn Bowser or Myron Dillard play? If so what do you like about them that makes you want them so much?

Projected third through fifth round was making the threads from game announcers over the weekend.

The one thing i can say about both are SPEED....Bowser has the speed and size to maybe play right away - similar to how many of us envisioned Graham.....Dillard sports a 4.28 forty time...i know those are "CLOCKED" but even if its manipulated, its way fast!!!!!

Say on a different note, has anybody heard how good Todd Blythe's chances are for the NFL draft?

I had heard as high as third-fourth round but only if he runs real well - 4.5 or so.....

Otherwise, look for him to be late on day 2.....6th-7th....

Heres a link to his info.

I don't know. But I want to see Chizik take advantage of Wallace Franklin's speed! Play him at the return man spot! Either that or this Carlson kid. Please!

Carlson will probably return kicks, I just think Franklin would just get killed. The way I see it Hamilton and Sumrall give us two solid guys. Other than that its a crapshoot. Bates probably is the third best option if he plays there. The thing is with Sumrall, Franklin, and Messiah being Srs, we need to find some young talent here.

I wouldn't put too much stock into Montgomery becoming a stud as when he got in trouble last year it was mentioned that the likes of Joel Zitek, Jake Williams, and Matt Scribbins were already ahead of him on the depth chart.

Also, look out for Houston Jones!

if we could get sedrick johnson, that would be HUGE... imediately we would have a solid first 3 with Hamilton, Johnson and Sumerall, and would have huge speed guys in Franklin and Carlson

Color me a guy that wasn't overly impressed with Sumrall last fall. I really felt that would be a great time for him to shine and he started the year pretty decent, but fell off as the season wore on. Perhaps that has to do with Hamilton getting better and better - I'm not sure.

The guy did produce his best yards and number of catches stats of his career, but he really didn't blow me away. Plus, he had a few really silly drops.

He's going to need to be a lot more dependable in his senior season, especially with Hamilton being the only other real contributor back at the receiver position.

As far as Marquis, I have very high expectations/aspirations for him.
