Let me preface by saying the NFC championship was such a hard fought battle that I was going to feel bad for either team if they lost. I was pulling for the Pack just because I don't want an East Coast Super Bowl.

Did anyone see how pissed Coughlin looked after Tynes missed that field goal? If I were Tynes I would have said "F you coach, you try to kick a 40 yard field goal in sub zero temperatures." He hit the one he had to anyways to win.

If I was Coughlin at that point I would have said "Keep your head up, we'll need you later to come through for us."

I was thinking the same thing. You figured at that juncture Tynes would have another crack at it.

Tynes saved himself some major $ on that kick. If he missed that that last one, you could kiss his butt goodbye.

The guy hasn't exactly been money for the Giants this season. 5/10 from 30-39 but oddly enough - 9/9 from 40-49.

So, Tom just needs to send him out there for either chip-shots or the extra long ones.

I know what your thinking, but do you suppose Coach could have been pizzed at the long snapper for botching the snap too high?

He was just warming up with the two misses - the goalposts were like a giant wallet to aim ay. Set the playoff record at Lambeau. Looks like Eli is Coming. Archie Manning was a basket case.

I thought it was stupid for Joe Buck to call out the snapper. He should have instead been singing Joe Feagles praises because he got the ball down, the laces turned, and it was a perfect hold and done in time. The miss was entirely on Tynes.

He did sing the praises of the holder for getting it down and in place. At least I thought I remembered him saying something.

Maybe he did and I missed it. I was just annoyed by the fact that he used the snap as an excuse.

Did anyone else think Coughlin was getting seriously frost bitten. His face was as red as a beet by the end of the game.

I don't completely agree. That threw the timing completely off. The miss goes on both the long snapper and kicker - with a ton of credit to the holder for even getting the thing in the ground.

I agree here. We'll never know if the timing was messed up or not. I'd assume so as the kick was so badly missed.

Great game...just sad to see it end the way it did for Farve cuz this was his year if it ever was going to happen again. He made a bad pass and just like that his season was done. But that was an amazing kick by Tynes. I don't think that will ever be repeated in Lambo...to come back after missing two of them to end the game and to drill that one was pretty amazing!!!

Sorry, the hold got down. I'm of the school where you have to make that kick. Or at least not miss it that badly.

The done in time statement simply isn't true. The timing of the snap, hold, & kick at that level is so precise that one or two tenths of a second is a huge deviation. It took the holder about that much longer to reach above his head and bring the ball back down the extra distance involved. In the meantime, the kicker has already committed so the expected outcome is a hooked ball which is what occurred. The kicker should get an atta boy for not drilling the snapper in his behind. Short-hopped snaps are normally easier to deal with than high or wide ones.

The previous miss was all on the kicker as he was also early, but the timing error was all on his part.

I wonder if any FGs have ever been made after a bad snap.
I think the answer to that is yes, there have been plenty of short kicks made after a bad snap....but in Tynes case I think it was a 40 yarder. (don't quote me on that) Obviously there is more room for error on short kicks.

I wonder if you've ever tried kicking at any level. It is hard enough to kick when everything goes according to plan, but when the holder is a split second off, all hell breaks loose. You're looking for what you're trying to kick to pick your spot on the ball and there's nothing there. The ball isn't always placed in the same place, so you can't take for granted where it's going to be placed.

I think kicks have gotten too automatic in the NFL. When I began watching (not that long ago, late 80's) there was still at least a little uncertainty with a kick.

EDIT: Wow, the late 80's was about 20 years ago... I am getting old.
