NFL: Chicago coaching search

looks like Emery is trying to set the record for most interviews......

I think he's just trying to rack up frequent flyer miles on the Bears tab. The morning radio team here said he's been flying to every interview as opposed to the Bears bringing them here.

What's the point though? Is there really any chance in hell that Mike Singletary will be the next coach of the Bears? (as a Vikings fan, I say please, yes) Seems like a colossal waste of time and money to me. If I were the Bears, I'd be really ******, it almost seems like this new GM is just there to take the Bears for a ride on this.

The Bears have reached out to far more than just 4 candidates. My assumption is they are just treading water until the playoffs are over. Its a little difficult to seek out coaches for interviews when those coaches are preparing for games.

That being said, I don't think Bevell would be a bad hire at all.

Did they even have a plan when they fired Lovie?

Reports -- Chicago Bears to interview Mike Singletary for coaching job - ESPN Chicago

Canadian Football League coaches?
Minnesota's Special Teams coach?
Mike Singletary?
Darrell Bevell?

Are any of those guys an upgrade from what they had?

Let's hope Rick Dennison has some interest. He's at least got some chops.

I know Janny I know ....ie I know yur pain because they beloved bears have been so bad for so long, actually since the Mike Ditka, Jim McMahon and Mike Singletary years.

I agree we need some relief from this BAD football...Come on Bears Hire a Legitimate Coach hellsbells even the KC Chefs came up with a good nfl coach in andy reed.

Go Cyclones Beat Dee J Hawks!!

after watching him, and rooting for him, as Offensive Coordinator at Minnesota for 4 years, I can say with 100% honesty, that the Bears don't want any part of him.

And me saying that is pretty watered down with what I have seen Seattle do on offense at times this season. I'm really not worried about the Bears coaching search at this time. I almost feel like Emery is playing this like Pollard a little bit in getting some names put out there while going after someone else. I mean does anyone really thinks the Bears are going to hire anyone associated with the CFL?

I haven't seen enough of Emery to know what he's likely to be doing, at this point. As far as the CFL thing goes, I sure as heck hope they wouldn't hire him. They'd be a laughing stock.

The Aloutettes guy did coach in the NFL like 17 years or something... then went to be the OC at NC State before heading over to the CFL. I think they need to avoid him.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know Emery all that well, but if he is even remotely serious on some of the names that are being thrown out there, I would loose a lot of faith in him. I saw today that he interviewed Dave Toub for the job, which is kind of a head scratcher.

I guess Ill just wait and see...I would think the Bears would pretty much have their pick of coordinators, but than again I'm a fan and could be a bit biased.

I'm hoping the theory of middle of playoffs makes it tough to move in the direction they want to go.

- They don't want a college coach.
- They don't want a Cowher, Reid, Gruden who is going to demand total control if hired.

That leaves O and D coords from current playoff teams..

This isn't college football. They don't need to worry about hiring a coach right away so as to not lose recruits. Why not take your time in the interview process and interview a wide range of guys? Seems like picking the brains of a diverse group of coaches on what the Bears need to improve on is not a bad idea. He's hiring someone to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears, not to coach at FIU, there will plenty more than qualified candidates who want the job.

Gee, thanks, didn't know that. He might want to look at FIU's offensive line though.

That being said, I still think it's a huge wate of time to be interviewing as many people as he is for the job. And actually, what you mention in the post, finding out what they need, is actually becoming a gripe of a lot of other poeple around the league, from what I hear on local radio here. Other teams are none too happy that he is scouring the leage for information. Teams don't want to look like the bad guy and not allow someone to interview, but they wonder why he is interviewing their special teams coach, for example.

Hey, it's the pros, as you pointed out to me, so yeah, they can do whatever they want, doesn't mean I can't find it stupid. It's not like the Bears are known for their awesome football decisions.

Sometimes, interviewing a ton of people helps you mask your real intentions and make your search seem much more broad than it really is. Whereas, if you only interview a few, everyone knows where you are focusing, including the competition who may grab somebody before you do if they think you are serious.
