Per Pete Roussel:
Troy: Sources tell me Wayne Bolt is the leading candidate to replace Jeremy Rowell as the defensive coordinator at Troy. Bolt served in an off-the-field capacity at Auburn for the last couple of years under Gene Chizik. He previously served as the defensive coordiantor at Troy at one point in time under Larry Blakeney.

Sorry for the flashbacks.

Good to see him back in football. The one I really feel bad for is McFarland. He left a head coaching job at Stephen F. Austin to work with Chiz. And then Gene demotes him before bolting for another job, effectively ruining any shot he had at an OC job anywhere else. I think he is currently an OL coach at a community college in Florida, I think.

McFarland stayed in Iowa after Chiz slid out of town to help his son at Gilbert HS for a year.
Then two years in the UFL, Florida and Sacramento.
This year he was OL coach for Copiah-Lincoln CC in Mississippi.

as far as I was concerned Bolt was the worst coordinator at ISU for quite a while, I would take Mcfarland back as an OC today.

I think Bolt probably had the same misfortune as the OC's under Ferentz......that being they were going to run the HC's offense/defense style, and that was that. I have no idea how Bolt would perform without Chizik over him, but I think the defensive schemes we "played" were those that the Chiz wanted to play.

They both made much more money than your average ISU graduate. Don't cry. Less than an average senator/corporate board sitter though.

The deadly Dead Bolt Defense...LOL. That was just dreadful and a dark, dark period for us defensively. It's hard to describe just how horrendous those defenses were.
