Mark Sanchez of New York Jets benched, Greg McElroy to start - ESPN New York

I don't know why it's even news anymore, other than for the sake of morbid curiosity, and maybe because the world wide leader shoved this team down our throats all summer long. Still, it's fun to watch the soap opera. Sanchez was perfectly awful last night, damn near "buttfumble" bad. The cameras on Rex showed his utter disgust and disappointment in his qb. Call it great moments in schadenfreude. And the cherry on top is that they bypassed St. Tebow in favor of Greg McElroy. Good stuff.

Awful! It must be something mental; I can't recall watching a pro QB miss easy targets like that. It kinda reminded me of Tiger Wood's mental collapse and watching a pro descend to a bumbling goof.

Rex Ryan should be fired. I understand they've had injuries, and have no receivers to throw to, but his handling of this has been awful. He says Tebow has been a distraction....what have you been in your time at NY, Rex?

As soon as they realized they had nobody to throw to, they should have started Tebow. They would probably still be in the playoff hunt. He could do for them what he did for Denver last year. Slow the game down, beat teams on the ground, and do enough to win. Is it pretty? No. Is he the best QB? Not even close. But he serves a purpose. Why even bring him in?

Defensive minded head coaches are going to be no more some time soon. Rex should be fired, Lovie will probably be fired if the Bears miss the playoffs. This is the offensive league now and has been for some time. It just seems like these two teams have just not caught on with that yet.

If you are going to play a qb who will struggle to complete 50% of passes, you might as well play the the one who can run, is built like a tank, and has confidence, over the one who is falling apart.

I don't think it was Rex's call on that. I thought Woody made that decision. And really, what was Woody thinking? After an offseason that exposed tons of turmoil and division in his locker room, he okays a big guaranteed extension to Sanchez a qb surrounded by question marks, and then brings in Tebow, a guy who, like him or not, brings his own circus with him. And he thought it would make things better?

I do feel bad for Sanchez. He really has no parts around him. Now, I still don't think he's a great QB, but there aren't many QB's that would succeed throwing to his WR's

His agent did well for him!

I think he's slated to make over $8 million in 2013 and it's guaranteed. That's a big cap hit if they cut him, and I highly doubt they're going to find anyone wanting to trade for him. Pretty likely he'll be a Jet again next year.

That CB who said he was the 2nd best receiver on the jets might have been lying. He probably would be the best.

Looks like the cap hit is even bigger than his base salary. According to this site, it would be a $13 million hit if they cut him before next year.

If that's true, there's no way he's going anywhere.

The Jets basically screwed themselves.

Bringing in Tebow was one of the worst decisions you could possibly make. You have a qb with confidence issues so you bring in one of the most polarizing qb's (through no fault of his own) who also has one of the largest and most vocal fan clubs in the NFL, and you're in the new york media market. I have no idea what he was thinking.

Sanchez has not been developed as a QB in any way since joining the league. Horrid offensive coaching. Add to the fact his surrounding cast is not good - he looks really bad.

I remember his first couple years - looked good. But no development has killed him.
