JW Walsh Beat Us While Injured

Agree, they were killing the soft zone all day. CB's were playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. Then later in the game, we jump every route possible to go for a pick 6 and give up chunk yardage. We either went too conservative or too aggressive, nothing in between. Really didn't like our defensive gameplan.

Our defense still gave our offense an opportunity to win. If the offense was average, it would have been very close.

JW Walsh was injured for almost the entire game against us and will be out the rest of the season per WRNL.

This happens more than you think. There are a lot of times players are either hurt or sick and end up having great performances. Also when you have an injury a lot of the time as long as you keep moving, it won't tighten up and the adrenaline will get you through as well.

Makes me respect the job he did that day all that much more. Also makes me wonder what really happened to ISU's defense that day.

Yes, the offense was terribly ineffective.........but the defense was not much better. Giving up 625 yards is not really giving your team a chance to win. Neither is allowing the other team to complete over 68 percent of their passes, or average 7 yards per offensive play.

The ISU offense was bad. But to say this loss is almost entirely on them is ignoring the facts. The whole team failed in this game. No one performed well.

I was embarassed by the defensive numbers after the game, but now to find out that the guy did it with one peg leg? Dang.

I disagree. Yards do matter, but ultimately its all about points. Giving up 31 points gives you a good chance to win in the Big XII. Most teams would probably take that actually.

Likely a lower leg injury, but they never specified. But, goes to show what a little bit of pressure could have done. If I remember correctly a majority of the plays were just drop-backs, he rarely rolled out and that may have been in part to the injury.
You don't just suddenly dial up more sacks whenever you want to. Not against the OSU offensive line. The sack that David Irving got against us was only the third we'd given up all year. That, plus it occurred AFTER Walsh was injured.

Is it really so hard for you guys to simply say, "You know. OSU is better than I thought and that kid Walsh is a real warrior?"

It's hard, but both statements are true. You guys are better than I thought, and that kid Walsh earned a ton of respect.

We ARE the number one offense in the nation, you know. You only allowed us a little over 20 yards above our average per game.

I appreciate your respect for J-Dub, but beating your defense up for doing what almost every other team does against the OSU offense is a little harsh against your own team.

So we should beat up our offense instead? We have been doing that. We are having trouble running and passing. Our best offense is Kirby.

As you are already aware, your defense is significantly better than your offense. I'm not shattering the Earth with that revelation. I'm just stunned that some of you are trashing your defense for not obliterating the nation's number one offense.

Offense is what we do. Our defense is getting better every year. We are just having to deal with an incredible string of bad luck when it comes to injuries. If we make it to a bowl this year, Gundy deserves Coach of the Year again. Just keep building and keep the faith. You guys are better than we were in 2006. It only took us three years after that to become relevant in the Big 12 chase. Two more years and we one the conference.

You just need to stay positive.

We realize your offense is #1 but we have been spoiled by our defense up to this point by holding teams way below their average yardage and points. When they had an average game for once everyone got angry.

Him being injured doesn't really say anything about us. He still played great. Its not like we got beat by a guy that wasn't able to execute. Some guys can just tough it out. Think Jake Knott last year.

And this year. Was at the game on Saturday and he was favoring his left shoulder big time. Hope it was just a "stinger".
