I watched the movie "We Are Marshall" this morning for the first time and was very impressed. It got me thinking:wouldn't it be great to have a movie based on the life of Jack Trice. I think it would be an interesting story that many people don't know about. A movie could help honor his legacy and bring positive attention to ISU.

Keep dreaming

what kind of response is that? I think it would be really great if a movie was made to tell the story of Jack Trice. It may not be very likely and probably wouldn't be a box office smash like We are Marshall. They did make a movie The Final Season, who would have seen that coming?

I think it would be possible, but maybe not on a blockbuster scale. I would write a screenplay myself if no one wanted to. That is how these things get started.

To sort of get back on subject, are there any Iowans in Hollywood that could get a screenplay through to the proper channels? I'm talking famous Iowans such as Tom Arnold or the kid who played Superman. I would think that that would be the way to go since any project like this would need funding and someone with Hollywood contacts could at least get the project off the ground.

You could always get one of his relatives to play his role.. I believe George Trice went to ISU when I was a student

It's such a compelling story that I think if the right people learned of it in Hollywood then it might have a shot.

I wouldn't trust Tom Arnold with the material. He's a Hawkeye Turd.

Maybe the guys who did "The Last Season" about the baseball team in Norway?

I assume you are talking about "The Final Season," with Sean Astin.

There are a lot of people from Iowa in Hollywood, Ashton Kutcher, Eric Christian Olsen, too name a few. Brandon Routh (who played superman) went to the University of Iowa. And I've also heard he is a jerk. Tom Arnold doesn't have much pull in Hollywood, but he probably knows some producers at the big studios he could probably approach. The first step is developing a screenplay or at least a log line. No one is going to be interested without one. A studio film takes a couple of years to put together and most studios have their slates filled years in advance. The best way for a film like this to be made by Cyclones would be the independent film way. Have a great screenplay and get someone attached to it that has a lot of star power in Hollywood and then funding can come from many different sources, distributors, private investors, tax incentives. Iowa has pretty favorable film incentives, but it's nothing like New Mexico, Arizona or Utah.

I could definitely see this being made independently if we found someone dedicated to the project.
