Can you start running the option as the qb before the ball is snapped? Shouldn't it be a false start / illegal motion? Their QB was guilty of this several times, but unsure of the ruling here.
 
Because the refs weren't very good. That's why. They got better in the second half, but still not very good.
 
He can be moving laterally, as long as he's the only one moving (just like a motion man). But if he's moving forward, it's not legal...probably not called much though. A lot of it is a QB will know the count, so he'll start his footwork before he even receives the shotgun snap, perhaps giving the illusion that he's moving "before the snap?"
 
Yeah, I'm unsure of what that was. It worked nicely whatever it was, and it happened every time they ran the option. I think it almost has to be legal with as many times as they ran it.

I agree with this. He really doesn't move until the ball is snapped, he's just moving before the ball gets to him, which does look weird.
