I understand we've had our perils against backup QBs in the past, but we didn't have the nation's 18th best defense back then...or EVER, for that matter. If Wally Burnham can't stifle a redshirt freshman in command of a middle-of-the-road offense, we've got deeper issues to address. Holding Seth Doege and that TTU offense to 24 points last week tells me TCU will be fortunate to put 14-17 points on the board. Of course, so will we...

I disagree. Wally is the man when preparing for a team, however, they have been preparing all week for Pachall. They have been watching game footage of a Pachall led offense. The backup sounds like he runs more, so we will be seeing something totally different than we have been preparing for.... on one day notice. That isn't easy.

I feel like this is still a positive in Iowa State's direction but to say that we have problems if we can't stop their offense... that seems tougher than you are making it sound.

I really hope you are correct, but we will see.

Until we stop turning the ball over and can score points I don't have a good feeling about playing anyone in the BCS.
We have scored 9 against Iowa and 13 against Tech.

Show my 30-35 points and then I will be more confident. 30-35 points with our defense wins football games in this league.

The thing with Brad Smith vs. Chase Daniel is that they were two very different styles of QB. The ISU D had a great gameplan and scheme set up to stifle Smith, and when Daniel came in and spread the ball all over, the ISU D did NOT adjust well at all.

Wally doesn't have a lot of time to adjust, but a few days is a lot better than mid-game.

ISU needs to look back and the Tulsa game and take away some from that game. Easily the second best team ISU has played so far this season, and the offense looked sharp.

Last season Tech lost 23 players to serious (multiple game) or season ending injuries, including 19 that required surgery. I'm taking the over for TCU to beat that.

Yeah, it wasn't TCUs offense I was worried about in this game. :-(

That's fair. It'll be interesting (if you are correct about this backup being run-first) to see if this game pans out kind of like TTU-ISU last season. If I recall correctly, TTU gameplanned for Jantz. Then JB came out and ran them ragged...as a redshirt with no experience. I hope I'm wrong!
