Life after Hubalek looks weak inside

I have now had the chance to see Justin Hamilton play. He is not even close to being ready to contribute at this level until maybe his junior year. Alex Thompson is a big body, but very limited post skills and still plays way too fast. Clinton Mann and Cory Johnson are not centers. We really need to address this position and Hubalek's replacement.

A lot of posters on here are begging for Appleton or another PG. The way Peterson and Garrett are improving, along with Buckley coming in, don't you think a wide-body JUCO player is top priority with one of our remaining schollies? All the other pieces appear to be in place for next year.

Give Brackins a year in the Big 12 plus another offseason and he will be fine.

Not dogging on Brackins at all, but I would like to see him go towards the basket a bit more. He has a great quick turnaround jumper which he could fake, take a dribble, and dunk. I bet we'll see this as his strength improves.

I think Brackins will be our center of the future, unless Alex Thompson starts there next year. I would love to see Cory Johnson start at power forward next year. The more he plays in a game, the better he plays.

I agree on that about CJ. He is underestimated by lots. He needs more playing time.

Did anyone see that Juco Indiana put in last night at the post? Dude was HUUUUGEEE. Major widebody. Mac needs to find one of those.

Reaching for a big JUCO now will likely not have the result we all want. Why? Because those with talent have already committed or other schools and coaches have made significant inroads in their recruiting. Those with talent and major issues are the exact kind of JUCO player that burns you down the road, and we can't afford any more problems with our APR.

I have faith that brackins will develop much to our liking. I think it could be too early to say whether or not Justin Hamilton can play C for us or not. Maybe AT or CJ will pick up some slack inside as well. I am a lil concerned, but i don't think we need to panic about the future or our inside play.

It seems like the system McDermott runs is so damn complicated that it takes guys half the year to run it effectively. In my opinion, the JUCO route shouldn't be the way to go under McDermott; not enough time to develop.

Looks like most of think our best bet is to go Juco rather than expect we can bring in Blue chip HS players.

Of course we can bring in Blue chip HS players. We can't in next year's class however.

Out of curiosity, what makes you say this? I've seen Justin play as well and was pleasantly surprised. He runs the floor well, has good hands, has good athleticism, and works hard on D. I don't expect much next year but by the time he's a soph I think he's got a real good chance to be a big factor for us, assuming he adds some weight and strength.

I think once the existing players really learn the system it will be a lot easier to for newer players to figure it out.

Has anyone seen Mann play? Since I am from KC I have tried to look for his name in the papers and haven't really heard much about him....what have others heard about Mann?

The amazing thing is that he weighs 295 lbs, but he's lost 55 lbs. since the summer.
