Give Sage a chance!

Does anyone else think Sage deserves a chance to be a starting QB in the NFL? He's been around long enough and seems to play well when he gets a chance. I know he's not real mobile, but in the right offense, I think he could flourish. There's a few teams out there that could upgrade by signing him. He deserves a shot before it's too late in his career.
 
I think he would fit in real well with the Lions. He is a big guy with a pretty strong arm. However if I were the Texans, I would be holding on to him. 4-1 as a starter, if he is able to get 100% of the reps from the coaches he might turn out to be your man. I know they paid a lot for Matt Schwab, but he has not done anything in the NFL except have potential.

Season ending stats for reference. They seem to be fairly similar results wise - but I was surprised by how mobile it looks like Sage is - 10 fewer times sacked and only 6 overall on a team that helped put David Carr in the record books for it.
 
I think Sage has done a decent job. But he throws too many picks. If he cleaned up that part of his game, he would be a sure starter. I do think that he's earned the right to be in competition for a starting job somewhere next fall. I'd love to see Seneca get a shot too...or move to WR.
 
i was kind of hoping that reggie would have got a sack on sage yesterday. would have been a nice cyclone reunion.

I agree that he throws too may picks. But I also think that this would improve with experience. He just needs more playing time. Hopefully he will get it soon.
 
Please don't trade Sage to the Bears-Brady would look more Rexish than Bradyish behind that line and with that lack of a running game.
As bad as I'm sure he wants to start, he's pulling down $2.6M per year as a backup with the Texans, in a state with no income tax. And given how much he was needed this season, I'm sure he can look forward to a pay hike/restructured contract.

It does not suck to be Sage Rosenfels.
 
Sage has a better TD/INT ratio than Shaub and has been sacked 10 fewer times. Unfortunately, I don't think his chance will ever come in Houston as the Texans would have a tough time swallowing their pride.

Sage has seemed to be on the cusp of a starting job for the last three seasons, it will be interesting to see if he ever breaks through.

He has thrown more picks, but he has also thrown more touchdowns than Schaub. Shaub is 9-9 while Sage is 15-12 td-int. So take your pick. I think it is six one way half dozen the other, but I would rather see Sage play.

Keep in mind as well that a good chunk of those picks were during the games he came in midway through and they were behind-he was throwing it up to try and make plays. Heck, he had a quarter of his picks for the year in that miracle comeback he led them on when Schaub went down (which the D then lost) against the Titans.
 
Dang, would anyone else have guessed Warner threw 27 TDs this year!?!?

I was looking at the season QB stats during this Sage thread and that jumped out at me. I mean for a guy that is more breakable than glass that's only 1TD less than Hasselbeck, Farve, and Brees ... only 2 less than Anderson and only 3 less than Peyton Mannings 30. Jeez ... and he had (on average) 75 fewer pass completions than any of those guys. Props to the old guy for a heck of a year.

When healthy, I think Warner is a good QB. I don't think he has been truely healthy the last couple years.

Yeah, ever since he hurt that thumb he hasn't had the grip he needs and tends to fumble a lot. Overall this had to be one of his best years since the Rams way back when.

Its kind of a joke looking at the top of the QB stats ... Tom Brady - that guy was pretty good this year ... damn. :eek:

Warner also has to have time to throw. He tends to get happy feet when he feels pressure, but if you give him time he is a great qb. Not being healthy for the past couple of years could also contribute to getting nervous in the pocket.

But back to the issue, it will be interesting to see what the Texans do with Sage this year, if they do anything. They might do like the Jags did this year. Wait until camp is over, make a qb decision and get rid of the other guy.
