Don't buy beer in a supermarket; it's 3.2% garbage.
From my understanding, just about every town has at least one brewery; stop in and you'll probably be able to get a sampler. Great Divide in Denver is the only one I've ever been to, and while I thought it was amazing, I suggest taking the recommendations of those who have lived in CO over mine.
Back in the 70's Coors was a regional beer. Anyone heading to Colo. would get money thrown at them to bring cases back to Ames.
Went with 2 dorm buds in 75 to the migration game at Boulder. Lost 28-27. Just enough room in the Delta 88 for us with all the beer we were hauling.

if you're in/near boulder make sure you visit the Avery Tap Room -
they're becoming more well known as some brews have made the trip across the country in specialty stores but their beers are unreal... all brewed on location they're to die for

Again if in Boulder I would check out Upslope Brewery as well. Thought it was pretty good when we were out there a couple years ago for the last game against CU. What a joke of a game...

I've always wondered why the grandparents always made 2 stops every Thanksgiving, one at the grocery store and one at the liquor store the size of wal-mart. Just assumed it was the prices, now I know it's a much more important reason, thanks!

How about whiskey? If you are a fan and are in Denver, check into Stranahans.
As for beer, I believe the "Dry Dock Brewery" is run by some Iowa State Alums.
The tour at New Belgium in Ft. Collins is the best brewery tour I've ever been on. Highly recommended.

My two favorite breweries are Grimm Brothers in Loveland and Equinox in Fort Collins.
Both of them are smaller but the quality of the beer is fantastic. You can always get an Odells or New Belgium but I think the local beer is more unique.

Depends what part of the state you are in:
Fort Collins-New Belgium, Odell, Funkwerks is amazing and new as is Equinox. Funkwerks is a must try. Fort Collins Brewery is also there, but nobody likes it.
Boulder/Longmont- Avery, and Oscar Blues. Oscar Blues is probably the most highly awarded beers in the state. Mamas Little Yellow Pills is the best golfing beer on the planet, Dales Pale Ale is the most well known of what they do. Oscar Blues is probably the best brewery in the state.
Denver-Dry Dock and Great Divide are really good. Breckenridge has its moments.
Jesus didn't like beer, so Colorado Springs doesn't have a ton of beer. (this statement is wrong, just don't spend much time down there)
You do have to get beer here in the liquor store or at the brewery, as we are a 3.2 state, as well as a no chain liquor store state, so the prices for the most part are all going to be different. I always advise to buy Growlers from whatever brewery you are at.
As far as liquor is concerned Colorado has a bunch of new distilleries. Everyone knows Stranahans but it got bought by Cuervo a year and a half ago so they aren't even going to make it here in the future and I think is overrated. Leopold Brothers is the best distillery in the state and make a variety of whiskey. Whoever said Breckenridge liquor was good sorry to inform you but that stuff isn't really a Colorado product. It says it is, because they BOTTLE it here, but in fact the whiskey is just Four Roses bourbon that they repackage here. They actually just bought the name. Downslope distillery is good as well, they make amazing rums and a really good rye whiskey.

I really like the Grimm Brothers Tap room. Very fun. Can get extremely busy, however.
