Does any Viking fan know why he didn't play in the first preseason game? I hope to God he is 2nd string over Joe Webb. Joe is no where close to being a decent NFL QB. He needs to move out to WR.

Paul Allen said before the first game that Sage wouldn't play and that they were sort of in the process of giving Joe Webb his last real shot at being the #2. They know what they have with Sage and are just auditioning the other two QBs from the sounds of things.

Well Joe sure didn't play very good last week. The other QB I've never heard of played better.

Joe Webb is not a 1 or a 2 or even a QB! If Ponder doesn't win 8 games this year, blow the team up and get a QB in the draft and start over. I'm getting sick of the Vikings trading for QB's 3/4 of the way thru there career. It is a QB driven league and if you don't have a solid QB you have NO chance.

Just looking at the NFC North, makes me sick how far ahead the Bears, Lions and Packers are...

I'm sick of the Viking coaches having love fests with some of their QBs(Tavaris Jackson) and now with Joe Webb. I like Ponder though. I think he'll be a pretty solid QB once he gets some more snaps in. Oh and maybe if the staff gets him a solid WR to throw to.

as recently as two days ago, Webb was pretty well cemented as the number 2 QB, according to the Access Vikings blog, and the battle for number 3 was down to Rosenfels and Bethel-Thompson, with the thought being that even though Bethel-Johnson has shown promise, Sage will likely win the job.

Awful. Here we go again with the staff's love fest with Joe Webb. He is the next T-Joke.

We're also talking about the backup quarterback. Let's not overreact. It's not exactly the end of the world. If they were trying to start him over Ponder, then okay, go nuts, but he's the backup. It's not like Sage is a world beater, either. If they get to the point where Ponder gets hurt, they're pretty much screwed anyway.

When was the last time Sage threw a pass in a game? I like him and all, but let's be realistic about his chances or his ability to be an NFL QB at this point.

He has not acquired a statistic since the 2008 season.

Not much of a Vikings follower, but don't the Vikings need receiving more than they need a backup QB?

Yeah, they're thin at WR. Simpson and Harvin will start, (after Simpson comes back from suspension) Michael Jenkins just took a pay cut in hopes of staying with the team. Other than that, you've got Devin Aromashadu, and a bunch of young guys. I think the guy they took in last year's draft, Burton, has a chance to be decent, but the injury to Greg Childs really left them thin.

I'm not saying to start Sage...I think he is a solid #2 QB. Joe Webb just shouldn't even be an option imo. Like a said, give Ponder the reps this year and if he doesn't show promise, start over in the draft next year. Honestly, with the schedule the Vikes have, he needs to win 7 or 8 games.

Maybe T-Jack could come back and try his hand at catching the ball.

Based on what? He hasn't thrown a pass in a regular season game in 4 seasons. He's a question mark at best.

Ok, let's be honest, if your back up qb is in the game your team is pry screwed anyway, just saying he isn't a starter. I basing it off of his time w/ the Texans and the fact that I would take Sage over Joe Webb.

agreed. The debate over which QB should be 2nd string versus 3rd string is not really that important. That said, Houston was a long time ago for Sage. Expecting him to perform on that level again is a risky proposition.

Well he needs to be getting his snaps in preseason. Bet money he out preforms Webb.
What do you think they've been doing in training camp? The coaches have been evaluating the QB's. Pre-season games are nice, but only a part of the picture. To this point, from what they've seen in training camp, the coaches have tabbed Webb as the #2 guy. Isn't it possible that that's legit? That Webb has outperformed the other two? Why does there have to be some conspiracy that the Vikings coaches are elevating him over Sage, not because he's been playing better, but because of the "coaches love fest" for him? Put down the Kool-Aid, man. I love Sage as much as the next Cyclone fan, but he's not getting screwed here. He's an aging backup qb who hasn't played in 4 years. He's lucky to be a #3 guy.
