So, I'm feeling left out of the NCAA Football 13 conversations. My wife and I have a Wii and use it rarely. I am thinking about purchasing a new console that I can play NCAA Football 13, but I don't know which one is best. Is either Xbox or PS planning to release a new system anytime soon? What do you think the best system to buy now is?

They are pretty much identical. Pick PS3 if you want and need a Blu ray player or would rather have a free online subscription vs $40 a year or so. Xbox live is probably a little better than PS3 online though.

I have an Xbox 360.

Both Sony and Microsoft are working on new consoles. They won't be released until 2013 at the earliest. If you don't have a blu-ray player already, and don't want to pay play online get a PS3. IMO for the money it is the better machine currently.

In before shitstorm. It really doesn't matter though, some will say PS3, some will say 360, they're basically even. I personally don't find the PS3 controller comfortable compared to the 360. PS3 has some nice exclusives though and plays Blu-Ray if that important to you. 360 is cheaper I believe, especially if you buy used.

Exactly. Mostly comes down to a couple tradeoffs and what is important to you and what you are comfortable with.

I had an Xbox 360 and sold it to purchase a PS3. I really wanted a Blu-Ray player plus I wanted to play MLB: The Show. I miss the Xbox Live interface, although I guess you get what you pay for.

If it were me, I would go with the PS3. Can't really go wrong either way. The Blu-Ray was a big factor for me though.

Prefer the xbox 360 personally, but the PS3 is a good console and nice for the blu ray player (have both). The controller for the 360, imo, is much, much better.

I have both, and I like the point you make about the controller. I think it gets overlooked sometimes.

For sports games, or other games I don't plan on playing for more than 45-60 minutes at the time I usually go with PS3. But with games I sit down with and play for a couple hours or so, I usually go with the 360.

Cool, thanks guys. I do already have a Bluray player, so no need to go the PS3 route for that. One other thing I was thinking is that I can get the Kinect program with the Xbox too and not miss our Wii at all...

I wouldn't try and let the Kinect be a deciding factor, IMO.

My ps3 turned into strictly a blu ray player about a month after purchase (other than MBL the show of course!), I play mostly sports games and IMO the 360 is the way to go for those games. PS3 does have the edge for exclusive titles, none of those are really my type of game so almost all of my gaming is done on the 360. As far as online, XBL is far better than the PSN. I'd say its all about what games you prefer, IMO the 360 is the better system but if you're not too partial to one game genre or another and don't own a blu ray then the ps3 is a great buy too.

Are you familiar with both controllers? They are fairly similar, but some people have a very strong preference for the Xbox controller. I haven't met anyone who feels the opposite, though.

Personally I don't have much of a preference between the two styles.

This sums up my thoughts, but I would also like to add that I think the selection of apps for streaming (ESPN360, Netflix, HBO Go) are better on the Xbox as well. Sure, you have to pay an annual fee for Xbox Live, but you can get a card for about $30-35 on sale. I rarely use my PS3 for anything other than a Blu-Ray player anymore.

Halo 4 will be coming out soon...
The only reason I would buy a PS3 is for the blu-ray player, which I don't care to have. I like the controller more on the 360, and I really enjoy the Halo franchise.
Other than that its a toss-up.

Anyone who buys a PS is a communist job killer who hates America.

But seriously I prefer an xbox because of their game lineup. You sound like a casual gamer so if I were you I'd just go the cheaper route.

Xbox if you want to be a real gamer. Halo 4 comes out the end of the year and you can't play it on the PS3 and all real gamers play Halo.

I have both basically because I love the features that both offer. I prefer the 360 a bit because I am a slave to the gamer score. However, I would wait the year or so to get the next-gen consoles.

Girlfriend and I did the buy a PC for $699 or higher and get a free xbox (4 gig). So.... if you need a new laptop and are a student, I'd check out that deal.

But I'm loving the xbox, even though the only game I have right now is NCAA 13. This is my first big boy console, so getting used to the controls, and multi-button use commands is taking a while, but I'm getting better!

I've got Iowa ranked #10 :)
