Guys I need some help. My contract with Mediacom is over next week. I have a phone internet and TV bundle for $110.00/mo. Never used the phone. So if I want internet and TV only, should I jump to Direct TV? The century link internet that comes with the direct Tv bundle is only 1.5 mbps compared to Mediacom's 12 in the Ankeny area. Is there a big difference?

Thanks for the help.

There is a huge difference. Just wait 13 months. Make sure you are seated when your Mediacom bill arrives.

Is your payment going to go up after the contract is up? DirecTV, no doubt either way. But you can always keep the Mediacom internet. And some parts of Ankeny are getting 7mbs, finally, but still not in my neighborhood. You'll never want to go back to cable after having DirecTV

Stick with media com for Internet and directv for tv for the best combo. DSL is not bad though.

I think it's been pointed out on here before that technically you're not under contract with Mediacom. Your special pricing is probably ending. I'm considering the same thing- probably will keep Mediacom cable and go to Dish or Direct.

Directv is a huge upgrade over mediacom. Used to have mediacom cable. Are you sure century link does not have a 15mb connection in ankeny. 1.5 is a little slow for youtube, netflix and online gaming, fine for regular browsing.

Thanks for the tips. I think I am going to go with direct TV for TV and Mediacom for internet.

And yes CenturyLink is still 1.5 in Ankeny, at least the southern part.

You will likely get free Sunday ticket or free movie channels for 3 months with direct tv if you sign up now. If you have a friend with direct tv make sure you tell them that they referred you so they get a credit on their bill also.

I line in the southern part as well, near A+ lawn and landscape, and we don't have 7 mps either, but friends about 5 blocks north just got it last year. Ill switch to them as soon add we get it

Ok, now that I am set on Direct TV. What is the best way to get it? From Satellite City or Rockstar Satellite, or directly from the website? I would imagine using a retailer is more expensive, but better service?

Check into DSL just to be sure. I am in south ankeny and I have 7M. I know people a few blocks away that can get 20.

I just called the 800 number when I ordered it at work. It was super easy and they took care of everything.

Switched to directv and century link a year ago now. Very unhappy with my 12 mb DSL line and will be switching back to mediacom once the contract is up.

But if you directly through century link vs through directv you can get the DSL cheaper. Then if you are happy with it you can bundle it after your promo's are over.

My century link bill is $106 with Directv and internet. However I'm getting rid of Directv to save $60. Love it but need to save money.

Consider Dish Network too unless Sunday Ticket is a must have. I have my internet through century link. $65 for 200 channel dish package.

If you're going to separate TV and internet, I'd suggest looking at Dish Network too.

When I compared the two, each had pros and cons, but when compared side by side, I found Dish to be a better solution for me.

Just think it may be worth taking a little time comparing the two.

I switched to DirecTV from Mediacom about 4 months ago and I'm happy with it. But I also went to Century Link for DSL from the cable internet I had. They sold it to me as 7mbps service but when they hooked it up, they can only get about 2.5mbps out here. Way too slow, but now I'm locked in it for a year. I'll be going back to Mediacom for internet after this contract is up, but will stay with DirecTV for TV.

Call Account Retention Dept. at Mediacom and get one and two year rates. After that say you are going to think about it and they will knock off another 10%!

Cool. I will try that.

For TV I really only need Fox Sports Midwest, so I can watch all the cardinal games so I need to check if Dish Networ and/or Direct TV have it.

I live on the west side of ANkeny and get 12mbps on Centurylink. Get Directv and they should give you sunday ticket for free.

Been off mediacon for going on two years and will NEVER go back.
