KF has to win and get to a decent bowl this coming season. The schedule is very easy, and Iowa State plays in Iowa City. If he wins 6-7, he will survive easily, but 2008 could take him out. The Hawks need major improvement.
Here's the schedule:
Northern Iowa
at Iowa State
Arizona
Penn State
open (probably sisters of the poor)
Michigan
Wisc.
Michigan State
Indiana
Ohio State
Minnesota.
That could be a disaster season unless he can make a substancial upgrade to his team. This season he needs to win, but also to build. Not an easy assignment.

In 2009, Iowa will have a very experienced offense and defense. This could be good or bad, depending on how the players look this season.

The most important thing, IMO, is cleaning up the off-field problems. I think Iowa can do very well next season, or very poorly. It just depends on the changes made in the off season. Iowa could win 12 (not very likely), or they could win 5. Next season is the schedule from Heaven, but the team will need to improve big time to take advantage of it.

I still have faith in Kirk, but I think if the team doesn't produce this season, peopile will lose faith, and for good reason.

Honestly though, 2009 is so far into the future, it is impossible to have any idea how good/bad a team will be. So many things can and will happen between now and then.

The only person who might know is Joe Paterno. And that's because his glasses are so thick that they can actually see into the future.

Iowa could win 12 next season??????? Is this the first of many Hawkeye calls that they will win the national championship???

It never ceases to amaze me.

It really is amazing. Iowa should try to take care of Western Michigan(at Kinnick) and Iowa State (3 games into a rebuilding process) before they spout off about how 12 wins is "possible."

From what I saw of Iowa last season I'm not sure winning 8 games is "possible."

KU could win 12 this season. Who would have guessed that!? It's not like SH said he was expecting it to happen.:dull:

Right, my point was that with this schedule, it's possible, and then I followed that statement with a "(not very likely)".

Next year I do expect for Iowa to be improved, but far from undefeated. I'd be willing to say 8 wins would be a good season, and anything more than that I'd be thrilled with. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm done predicting Iowa's football seasons.

Why would you be surprised to hear that from a hawk fan. 95% are predicting a BCS bowl game prior to any football season that has come for decades.

If I remember correctly, there were a lot of block heads saying they would go at worst 9-3, most likely 10-2, and with any luck they could go 11-1 and be the Big 11 champs this last year and that was extremely fun to watch the backtracking they did to cover those stupid predictions.

I am no more surprised that we hear the 12-0 talk already then I am to watch them pee down down their leg and get booed off their own home field. Fickle fans do things like that.....
Not necessarily directed at Southern, just making the statement...

My point exactly, 91. After what we have seen out Iowa City the last several years, anything IS possible. With the exception of double digit win seasons.

Actually, double digit wins are quite possible. In fact, out of the last 6 seasons, 3 of them have been. I understand people not believing this year - I don't expect a double digit win season.

But it just makes me laugh when after 2 mediocre seasons (and one decent one that had some bad breaks), people just assume that Iowa is done for the rest of eternity or something. And I hate to bring it up, but wasn't there a thread on this board about a week ago where Clone fans were talking about how a 10 win season was possible?
