Why Justin Tuck looks like a space creature - NFL Nation Blog - ESPN

I think he's had a facemask with a lot of extra bars for a while, but this one is taking it to another level.

Try to facemask him and you might break a finger. Think about it, you get your finger caught in on of those holes and it is going to snap.

here's his facemask from last year, for comparison's sake.

Doesn't he have something wrong with his face that he needs extra protection or something? I thought I heard that somewhere. Maybe breaking his nose often or something of that sort.

If I were a defender I'd do this. Offensive facemask isn't called so why give the ball carrier any place to grab on.

Are facemasks still steel, dipped in that tool dip type stuff?

If so, that has to add considerable weight to the helmet.

Did you see this:

But then it becomes one of those situations where when you make a facemask with so many bars like that how much weight is going to be too much weight. So what Schutt did was we made that out of titanium, which is light as a feather. You can feel his helmet now, it feels just as light."
