I am heading to Kansas City on Friday and was wondering what are some of the better BBQ places are to eat at. Any input would be great.

We ate at Gates BBQ near the stadiums once. Wow, I cannot say how amazing the food was. The area was not the best but it was not horrible either. Oh and did I mention how great it was?

This topic begins and ends with Oklahoma Joes. I can't speak for the second location but the original one that's located in the gas station is the best in KC by far.

My Favorites:

Fries and Sandwich: Oklahoma Joes
Ribs and Beans: Jack Stack

Also noteworthy: Wabash in excelsior springs great ribs, Mcgonigle Market has little stand that sales sandwiches that are pretty tasty.

I've been out of KC for three years but damn just thinking about bbq makes my mouth water.

Jack Stack
Gates
Arthur Bryant's
Oklahoma Joe's

...in no particular order. Each person is different and has their favorite.

Jack Stack doesn't count. I love it, but it is too fancy for BBQ and you are going to spend a little more than your roadside BBQ's

Here is my opinion

Oklahoma Joes: Best all around and my favorite. Good meat and great sauce
Jack's Stack: Best meat but I am not a fan of their sauce.
Gates: Pretty good food. I would rate them #2 and the service is interesting.

It really depends on what you want to eat. Arthur Bryants has good sandwiches, but the ribs I had were not very good. Oklahoma Joes on Mission is great, but it seems a little impure that the best sandwich I had there was the one that had to be dressed up with the onion ring (Z-man). Gates spicy sauce is the best, IMO, and I really liked the ribs I had there.

Ollie likes to send his best meat to the worst neighborhoods, because those jokers in Kansas can't tell good BBQ from bad.

Jack Stacks -> get the cheesy corn bake side -> it's awesome...and the bbq lamb is really good too.

The Z Man sandwich or Chicken Z Man at Oklahoma Joe's >>>>>>>>>>>>>> *

Soooo good. You get decent value for your money too. Great great bbq joint.

I like Gates and Arthur Bryants the best. Jack Stack has great side dishes but I sometimes find their meats to be a little underwhelming. Have had some really dry meat entrees there which means they've over-cooked the meat. I've heard good things about Oklahoma Joe's but never had the chance to try it myself yet.

Gates is good if you don't mind being yelled at.
Gotta know what you want before you get in line. They move a lot of people through there and don't like it when people are indecisive. The first time I was in there I was waiting for someone to say "NO Q FOR YOU!" :realmad:
