I hope ND comes as well if it does not impose obtrusive conditions. I have heard two scenarios.....FSU & Clemson with ND #13 and ? #14 and FSU & ND(hopefully) and stop at 12. I really hope we do not lose Clemson as they really want to be part of the new Big XII. That is important......I know.
The Shaggy story indicates that ND does not want more than 12 members. That would be a tough promise to keep, if accurate. I understand that there are escalators for certain schools added to the media contract, but isn't there supposed to be a more complete renegotiation of the contract when the conference expands above 12? If so, it doesn't seem prudent to stop right at 12 when you could go at least 1 more value-added program and renegotiate.
Also, shouldn't we get into the southeast markets while the ACC and Big East are week? Grab schools now in the best media markets for college football while we can. This means North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, or Kentucky (don't see how we could get into Alabama, Tennessee, or Mississippi). If the SEC is holding back, we should take all the picks we can.

Yes, I think the structure is in place, that's why I think it makes sense. However, I just don't see ND making any moves to conference affiliation in football.
If all this rumored stuff does happen, the Big East is going to be a shell of its former self, so ND is probably doing something. If I were ND and I had the option to take my BB and olympic sports to the ACC, where you could have a ton of amazing BB programs, why wouldn't you do that?
I just don't see the playoff restricting access to ND at the end of the day, and as long as its theoretically possible for them to get into the playoff as an independent, I think they stay independent. If they get screwed by the structure after a few times, then they make a move, but I'll believe any football membership when I see it before then.

To me, USC and Michigan are the only 2 that they would never stop playing. I know in the past they've not played Navy and BC. The California games have always been part of recruiting in Cali, but if they got a bigger foothold into Texas maybe that makes up for losing one or both of those games.
Adding ND and FSU would be a dream scenario for the big 12, that conference could stay at 12 for a long time. It's pretty cool to see the big 12 as the focal point of bringing teams in, the pub the FSU situation has gotten sets the conference up for the top choice of anyone who is looking at the moment.
i think there is some history with navy. Something like a long time ago teams weren't so likely to schedule ND because they were catholic, but Navy would still always play them, so now when not all the teams are excited to schedule Navy, ND returns the favor. Not sure I have it all right.

FSU and Clemson appear to be in for sure. If ND is in as #13, Georgia Tech appears to be the favorite as #14.

I could take this. I would love it if #15 and #16 were VA Tech and UNC/NC State, but I think that only happens if the SEC passes on them for some reason. Whatever happens, I don't want to see Pitt in the Big 12.

Pitt: over 100 years as a rival
VPI: over 50 games I believe
VPI has a bigger upside but both have been very condescending toward the Big XII. Pitt's best days are in the past. I think both of their AD are calling the Big XII, as reality sinks in. Losing Beamer will change the Hokies, but I believe they will be a better fit. Hell their campus sits about 25 miles from the WV border so we are more alike than either likes to admit. :shocked:
I think getting ND would be great for Cyclone fans in Chicago. There could be a lot more tv coverage of B12 if so. Maybe an occasional football game in Soldier Field too. I know that the south has better football teams and recruiting, but I wouldn't mind a couple of northern teams to be close if we get shifted to an east division.

Another reason I like the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is that it gives the Big 12 a huge grasp on the rapidly-growing DC market. Hokies are king here and WV is up there, and they're clearly the best 2 nearby teams.
I know it is all about the money and football, but I hate that they aren't going to be really geographically close anymore.

Pitt is by far the most overrated school being bandied about for expansion. They may have sold out the ND game at Pitt this past season but there were hundreds of empty seats in fairly good weather. Pitt FB ranks, at best, #5 on the Pittsburgh sports meter behind the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and PSU FB. Some argue they are #7 behind Pitt hoops and West Virginia FB.
The only way Pitt gets into the B12 is if ND wants them in with them.

Very True. Beamer has some health issues and is well into his 60's and most figure his days are numbered. WVU does very well in Northern VA and the DC area. Our campus is much closer and the WV eastern panhandle(my home) is only minutes to Virginia and a long hour to DC. VPI is much closer to Tennessee but they are a force in tv and recruiting in all of Va. VPI really has only been relevant the last 19 or 20 years and they really stepped it up when they got into the ACC in 2003.
I noticed ISU recruits Florida as we do. Having FSU as a conference member will only make that easier.
I'd love to add Va Tech if possible, IMO the Big 12 should have them as the number 1 target if ND and FSU don't work out, or as a package deal with FSU, I'd take them over Clemson if it was an option.
