Kerry Wood Retiring Today

When was the 20 strikeout game? '98? Fairly long career for the kid.

You are correct it was May 6, 1998. It was only the 5th start of his career.

Thought the Cubs were going to be set for years to come with Wood and Prior...... Well it is still just wait until next year.

According to reports, Kerry Wood will retire today.

this is a severe "cool story bro" warning from the emergency weather broadcast system...

I was his waiter once just after college during that season where he, Prior and Zambrano were an awesome rotation that nearly got them there. He seemed like a nice guy, he was having dinner with his mom.

Not to mention Zambrano who was practically their ace toward the end of "that" year.

Dusty Baker absolutely destroyed Wood's and Prior's careers pitching them like 200 innings very deep into ballgames.

That's a shame. If there was a What Might Have Been Hall of Fame, the Wood/Prior/Zambrano rotation would be a first ballot inductee. Good luck to Kerry Wood whatever he decides to do next.

How far have the great little Cubs fallen in the past decade? The Twins, Brewers, and Royals have caught up...

If we could turn back time to the Cubs best seasons...

If you're a Brewers fan, the "Cubs kick in the nuts" factor is really working in your favor.

White Sox championship? Check. Recent Cards championships? Check. Red Sox Championships so you're the only old school, old stadium "cursed" team? Check.

Brewers championship is the next saltiest thing to rub in wound.

It would obviously never happen, but I'd love to see Kerry get the start tonight for his last hurrah! He knows it's the last time out, nothing left to hold back. Just keep throwing hard until his arm falls off.

One of my all-time favorite Cubs. He has always been loyal to the organization, even though his career did not turn out like it otherwise might have.

That'd be awesome.

Start him. It will not matter about the outcome. The what ifs for the Cubs are amazing. I wish they could get back to the top again.

Like this, or are you going to make me go back another 4 decades?
