But again it's revisionist history, LJ had 5 tackles and OSU had 60 yards rushing(I can look at a box score too). Pretty good for someone who was getting dominated.

Obviously your going to stick with mislead opinions no matter what, and I wouldn't have it any other way that's why your my favorite. I do appreciate the respect for ISU football since you must think pretty highly of them, beating OSU while getting dominated by Blackmon is quite the feat.

It was sarcasm. That is why I put the emoticon there, big guy. Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet all five tackles came after he had just allowed a completion to Blackmon. I also remember OSU running the ball to Blackmon's side almost every time because he was their best run blocking receiver.

You are resorting to this? Cmon. We know he doesn't suck, but there is obviously a reason he wasn't drafted. There is something teams didn't like or need. It's not like they didn't evaluate him.

I know Cyclone fans think he is great because he is one of theirs, but the NFL is a large business and for the most part know what they are doing. They miss on guys, and maybe he is a miss, but something was there they didn't like.

is a tough thing. Iowa fans are all wondering why McNutt wasn't taken higher. When teams get down to rounds 6-7, there's a whole bunch of players who could be taken, it just depends on what the teams are looking for at that point. Bernstine is a very good athlete (his 40 time at Iowa's pro day was outstanding) who has one year of good safety play. I would imagine the Redskins took him as he at the least will provide good special teams play with his ability to run and tackle, and if he can stay healthy there is some possible upside as a safety.

This is a good comparison, great in college but just not athletic enough to warrant a good draft pick. It doesn't diminish what he did in college like some people in this thread seem to think.

I'm also willing to bet you "remember" whatever helps your terrible misguided argument. Still don't believe you even watched the game, OSU's rushing yards were up the middle where we gave up rushing yards all year.

I have noticed before, as in this thread, that if a thread will get past the part where both sides just try to troll each other, generally a decent conversation can be the result with good points made from both sides. Generally the threads don't get past that long trolling phase though.

LJ had one really solid year out of 4. He got burned way more often than not the previous 3 years. He'll make a team, no doubt, but I'm not overly surprised that he didnt get drafted.

If you run a 4.71 40 as a CB, you don't deserve to get drafted. No excuse for that barring your leg falling off in the starting blocks. I had guys on my 2A Iowa HS team running in the 4.7's.

Anyone can have a bad run. And on top of that, game speed is way more important than track speed.

I'll take the intangibles . . . that is, a proven track record on the field against TOP quality opponents ANYDAY over a 40 time.

But then again, the NFL so jacked up anymore . . who cares. It is becoming the NBA . . big names . . and no following outside the city it represents.

This would make sense if the vast majority of data didn't show otherwise.

Also, just because a guy may have performed well in college doesn't mean he'd perform well in the pros. This is part of why they test metrics.

threads often start out well, then diverts into a ditch where the usual suspects of side issues come out, then sometimes get back on track. All we're missing yet in this thread is some attendance comparisons or the the definition of a "real fan."

It's not used as often as people think. It's an overrated stat. Now the Raiders, I admit, use it almost exclusively.

I'll take what's on tape over a 40 any day. And in Johnson vs. Blackmon, Blackmon still got his. But he had to work for it, unlike most of the season. Game speed, or football speed, is more important than any 40 time. Jerry Rice didn't run a good 40, but he was so strong he could run that same speed in a game, and knew the game so well he didn't have to slow down to think. He played much faster than his 40 would have suggested.

I think it's used just as much I think, to be honest. You and other posters can claim you like film more, and I'm sure they use a lot of it. But a 40 time is important, and is used by each and every NFL scout. What you'll take and what the NFL takes are two different things for the most part. We have no idea exactly what they see in each and every player, but there is a reason they line up for those 40s with every NFL scout watching.

amazing since our lousy 2008 team was tied in the 4th quarter against a good Iowa team if I recall, and that so-call infraction was the biggest bullsh$t call of the year. The ball was recovered by ISU in Iowa territory. Instead, Iowa got 15 more yards and retained possession

Years past, Bob Sanders got away with spearing constantly by leading with a shoulder pad to the Qb/WR's chin.

I think he knocked out three Big 10 QB's in one season with tactics like that--and never penalized
