Bernstine over LJ?

Blackman's per game averages:
Catches- 9.3
Yards- 117

Against Iowa State:
Catches- 10
Yards- 99

Let's use an analogy here. If Kevin Durant (PPG avg: 28, FG%: 49.6) is held to 24 points on 53% shooting, was he "shut down" by the opposition? The answer is no. They played good defense on him, but he still dominated the game.

Did you really just try to use Durant as a comparison?? Each attempt is more feeble than the last but I think the this says it all. Anyone who watched the game knows this couldn't be further from the truth.

Not really. If LJ's performance was so stellar, you'd think scouts would have taken notice. At least to the point where they'd opt for him instead of a chump like Bernstine.

Oh you were serious, I thought that was a joke. Definitely a comprehension fail.

What do you think got LJ invited to the combine? It obviously wasn't his athleticism

But if NFL teams made their picks based off of 1 game than you'd have a point...

I have given you several arguments as to why Blackmon bested LJ, and all you can come up with is "You obviously didn't watch the game then." I watched the game, just like (I'm assuming) you did. If that is the only thing you can come up with, then I think it is fairly obvious as to who is the person with the "feeble" attempts.

Ah. So he played great against Blackmon and crappy against the rest of the Big 12. Got it.

But good job keeping the whole "fail" thing alive. Thought that had finally been relegated to 15-year-olds writing blogs in their basement. Well done.

Good one. Please teach me how to be the coolest person on the internet.

I guess you didn't understand the last post either, I should have spelled it out for you. LJ performed great on the field all season, hence the combine invite. His performance at the combine is why he went undrafted.

You do know that just having an argument doesn't mean your right, don't you?

If you watched the game you must not watch, or understand, games where teams pass the ball. LJ beat Blackmon head to head, 1 pick, 1 deflection that turned into a pick, and almost completely eliminating him from the second half.

Can't wait for the next Kevin Durant comparison...

So in your opinion, the pass deflection and the interception cancel out the 10 catches for 99 yards and one touchdown Blackmon had, as well as the missed tackles, crucial pass interference penalty, and ***-whooping LJ took from Blackmon in the run blocking game? Wow. And I'm the one who doesn't understand football? Take a look in the mirror, buddy. Maybe a couple hours of Madden will help you learn a few things. :twitcy:

didn't ISU win this game??

If LJ got his *** kicked what happened to the Stanford CB that covered him during the Fiesta Bowl?

P.S.- Blackmon had 186 yards catching on 8 catches with 3 TD's.

LJ had one really solid year out of 4. He got burned way more often than not the previous 3 years. He'll make a team, no doubt, but I'm not overly surprised that he didnt get drafted.

Come on. Even you have to say that pick over LJ is ridiculous.

I'm not going to read through this whole thread, so I apologize if this has been addressed. But, considering Bernstine and Johnson play different positions, I wouldn't say this is a ridiculous pick. If I'm looking for a possible high-upside safety project, I'm most likely not going to pick a cornerback.

You might say its crazy that LJ has stayed on the board that long (and eventually fell out of the draft), and that would be fair. I was surprised. But but calling an individual team crazy for passing on him for a player at another position doesn't make much sense. The Redskins have DeAngelo Hall and Cedric Griffin at corner, so they're pretty good right there. But they only really have Brandon Merriweather at safety.

Johnson also missed a tackle on Blackmon several times, didn't get turned around on a deep ball that led to an OSU touchdown, picked up a PI call when OSU was backed up in their own endzone, and got seal blocked by Blackmon multiple times on outside rushes. Not to mention the interception was on a tipped ball that most college CB's would have been able to make a play on. And that's just off the top of my head. Like I said, LJ did the best he could, and he did a fair job covering Blackmon. But Blackmon clearly won the head to head battle, and it was no where NEAR as close as Iowa State fans make it out to be.

I think that you are letting your bias work a little here. I'm not going to say that LJ shut down Blackmon. I wouldn't even say he bested him, but I'd put it as a draw...which not many CBs last year could claim. The announcers were raving about LJ during the game. And, that game basically got him a combine invite and listed in Mayock's Top 5 CBs going into the combine. Sick or not, LJ screwed up running at the combine. Dropped him from a 3rd rounder to UFA. That's what a 4.71 does to you as a CB and no hand-timed pro day 40 can make up for that.

I don't think either LJ or Blackmon CLEARLY won the head to head battle...but I guess we know who won the game. You hawkeyes can roll out all the revisionist history you want, but you can't change scoreboard.

Fair enough. Good to see that some people can still have a reasonable discussion and give a reason to back up their argument.

I think this explains a lot if Madden is where all your info comes from.

But again it's revisionist history, LJ had 5 tackles and OSU had 60 yards rushing(I can look at a box score too). Pretty good for someone who was getting dominated.

Obviously your going to stick with mislead opinions no matter what, and I wouldn't have it any other way that's why your my favorite. I do appreciate the respect for ISU football since you must think pretty highly of them, beating OSU while getting dominated by Blackmon is quite the feat.

This /\

I thought he was one of our most disappointing players in his soph and jr years. And I'm betting a lot of scouts scratched him off the list after running a 4.7.
